One of the defining images of 2020 featured two homeowners, two firearms and a confrontation that ignited a national firestorm.
Six years later, the legal, political and cultural fallout from that moment continues to reverberate through debates over self-defense, private property rights, public protest and prosecutorial power.
On June 28, 2020, as racial justice protests swept cities across America following the death of George Floyd, Black Lives Matter demonstrators made their way through Portland Place, a private, gated street in St. Louis, toward the home of then-Mayor Lyda Krewson.
As the crowd passed through the neighborhood, the McCloskeys emerged from their home carrying firearms — Mark with an AR-15-style rifle and Patricia with a handgun.
Within hours, images of the encounter had spread nationwide, turning a confrontation on a private St. Louis street into a flashpoint in America’s debate over self-defense, property rights and public protest.
Supporters viewed the couple as homeowners defending their property during a period of unrest that had swept cities across the country.
Critics argued they unnecessarily escalated the situation by brandishing firearms at demonstrators.
Six years later, the legal and political aftershocks of that day are still being felt.
Looking back today, Mark McCloskey said the experience reinforced one lesson above all else.
“You can’t rely on others,” McCloskey told Fox News Digital. “You have to be prepared. You have to know how to defend yourself.”

My ultra libtard sister in law tried to bait me by asking if I thought black lives mattered. She was stunned into silence when I asked “When will they matter to other black men?”.
I Remember That Pink Shirt,
The Wife picked it Out,,No Doubt.
As soon as that mob entered their home, fire.
Never any question of self-defense and the remaining members of the mob would have scattered until the police got there.
The problem was the city and state they live in.
Murderers were released because she didn’t bother to send anyone to their court dates. No charges were filed for tearing down statues, etc. The state finally got her when they found out that instead of doing the job she was being paid to do, she was attending nursing school. Even then, she left the job kicking and screaming ‘racism’.
I don’t think that the “Koreans on the Roof” got any jail time or even harassment.
The deterrent value of brandishing a weapon is grossly underrated.
Their mistake was brandishing. I fully support them without question to defend their property from black thugs rioting in the neighborhood. But concealed means concealed. But I wasn’t there so maybe it was needed. Such a shame we live in a society where we can’t defend ourselves.
“Their mistake was brandishing.”
Maybe brandishing was the only gesture the violent thugs understood.

Trump walked to St.Johns (?)
With a Bible in his Hand.
I took grief at work for That.
They are absolutely right.
“””””I don’t think that the “Koreans on the Roof” got any jail time or even harassment.”””””
I always had the impression that the left and the media just wanted to pretend that never happened and let it fade away, there was nothing good for them in keeping the armed Koreans story alive and making it an iconic non-white/black image memory of the riots.
I might have gone outside *armed*, but put the weapons in pillowcases.
;)
“They were unfairly convicted.”
Political hit. Damn White people.
Many people forget that they were stalked by the NLM [Nuffin Lives Matter] people the very next weekend, and that the Nuffin POS Kim Gardner encouraged the stalking, rather than prosecuting it.
The article should have mentioned the prosecutor who went after the McCloskeys, Kim Gardner, was removed from the case, as well as her entire staff.

Eventually, Kim Gardner, who was supported by George Soros, resigned as evidence of her corruption mounted.
IIRC: THE ATTACKERS BROKE THRU A GATE INTO A PRIVATELY GATED COMMUNITY
Firebombing is the most likely scenario to me. If I ever show my true colors here near Portland, OR, the local ANTIFA would try to burn me out. I can’t defend 24x7x365.
