Furious Napa Valley vineyards facing oblivion as crucifying new fees drop: ‘Can see where this ends’

California’s Napa Valley is fermenting into a full-blown revolt as furious vineyard owners warn a new fee could leave them paying tens of thousands of dollars a year — the latest financial punch threatening to crush the struggling wine industry.

Farmers across the iconic Northern California enclave say they are staring down financial disaster as the state moves to crucify them for their use of groundwater.

Under a new law coming into effect later this summer, wineries will have to pay just under $99 per acre per year on land they irrigate as part of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s sustainable water initiative.

It comes as the region, once famed across the world for its wine, is already in crisis mode over plummeting profits, fewer tourists, changing drinking habits and wildfires wiping out farmland.

Why anyone would run a business in a communist totalitarian state like California is beyond me, but I guess these vineyards were around for decades well before it went communist and it crept upon them slowly before they could take any real awareness of the danger, now they are in a hell of a fix.

No, the question is: Will Goobernator Slimeballs wineries once again be exempted?

We need to proceed as if the system were already broken, because it is.

Great weather, great soil. Unfortunately not enough rainfall and far, far too many Sacramento locusts eating everything you produce.

Suppose something is flawed. So an adjustment is needed.

Conservatives will usually adjust as necessary.
Liberals will never adjust. It’s always full speed, right off the cliff.

This California fiasco is just another example of that.
(Or should I say this latest California fiasco?)

I also enjoy that many of them will be hoisted on their own petard, but...not all vineyards are run by Leftists.

Well. In any case, this is what Leftists do. Everything they touch turns to crap.

They spent decades, nearly a century, refusing (due to environmental activists and other Leftist-leaning endeavors) to plan for the future with water availability as the population of the state expanded.

The penalty is now due, and Leftists like Newsome are always looking for new ways to tax “the rich” as vineyard owners are undoubtedly characterized by the Left.

One day when in our local New Hampshire liquor store, two ladies were wheeling out carts heaped with cases of Napa Valley, CA wine.

I asked, big party? They laughed and one said they were from Napa, CA and found it cheaper to buy Napa wine in NH and ship it home than to buy it a mile from their house.

As the locals say: “Sonoma makes wine, Napa makes auto parts”

How are Pelosi’s vinyards exempt, or is Pelosi intending to buy up the defunct vinyards ahead of the tax reversal?

Wine grapes nothing. What about the numerous crops the nation gets from CA?

And if you are selling a commodity, you have little control over the price.

Not many “conservatives” in Napa and Sonoma counties.

Why anyone would run a business in a communist totalitarian state like California..

Some have deep roots in the state. For them it's hard to let go.

Others are true believers who have bought into the cult that (mis)runs the state. They have to keep their allegiance to the cause.

There's still some left, especially in AI and Info Technology, who are making gobs of money. They don't want to upset the apple cart by moving out of state.

An acre produces about 2000 bottles per acre.

$99/acre ÷ 2000bottles/acre = $0.05 per bottle.

No. California’s progressives have been stealing elections for decades now, the We-the-People have no control over it.
