n July 1, 2026, a new anti-liberty/gun law goes into effect in California. Its primary feature is a ban on all new Glock handguns and a variety of other similar, striker-fired handguns. Why would California ban the most popular handgun in America? Because of “Glock Switches.”

These are small, aftermarket accessories, apparently mostly made in China and illegally smuggled into the country. The Chinese don't have America's best interests at heart, but neither does California. They replace the small panel at the rear of some Glock slides—they don’t fit every Glock model—that allows fully automatic fire. Glock does make an automatic pistol, the G18, which is a G17 with a selector switch, but that’s available only to the military and law enforcement.
Glock has redesigned much of its product line at great cost to thwart Glock Switches, but California and other states have rewarded Glock’s civic-mindedness and adherence to the law by banning its products. They haven’t done anything to better catch, prosecute, and jail violent criminals who misuse legal guns. Instead, they’re attacking the guns and depriving honest citizens of their use.
Glock Switches, and any part that might allow a gun to fire automatically, are already illegal. Merely possessing them is a federal felony, as is importing them. Installing them on a Glock creates a machine gun, which is another federal felony. Shooting them, or anyone, invokes state felonies and probably federal terrorism laws. Injuring or killing someone invokes homicide statutes. In other words, the mere possession of such things is already very illegal, using them is more so, and killing someone might invoke the death penalty, but probably not in places like California, where they take an enlightened approach to such things. They just ignored the fact that Glock modified the design of all their guns so that a “Glock Switch” would not work. It seems that was never really the point.
Haven’t we been through this before? Something about banning specific brands?
“Glock switches” are easily produced on 3D printers.
A separate question is whether the availability of “Glock switches” results in more or fewer people injured or killed.
Full auto handguns are notoriously difficult to shoot well.

We knew decades ago that IF they could get a semi-auto ban to “stick” they would be back for their original target between 1962 and 1984, HANDGUNS. Their prop 15 gun ban bill failed in 1982. Voters REJECTED IT. No gun ban has ever been put before the voters since in California.
Rest assured they will be back for more, and More and MORE.
In 1988 California tried to add LEVER ACTION RIFLES to their AW ban bill that was passed after they released Pat Purdy from a mental institution, allowed him to buy a rifle and hand gun over the counter passing the waiting periods and back ground checks.
Then in 1989 he went and shot up the Stockton School yard killing several students and himself.
The Semi auto ban bill was quickly passed AFTER the lever action ban part was removed.
It's the liberal way.

There are techniques to keep the gun on target. They take practice.
Yeah, they’re going to be sued and this obviously unconstitutional law will be struck down.
We need “loser pays” laws so that people trying to thwart the Constitution over and over again should have to pay when their goofy “laws” get overturned.
