A Florida woman was just let off by a judge after pleading insanity. Her crime? Drowning her 15-month-old toddler and stabbing her husband and teenage daughter when they tried to stop her.
Yes, it's apparently legal to drown your toddler if you're stressed due to Covid??

I think "waiving" a jury trial may have worked in the defendant's favor this time around.
But for judge de la O, it may have been a major misstep.

Yes, the Attorney General of Florida is drafting articles of impeachment seeking to de-bench this judge.
There may be some justice after all.

Here’s NBC Miami:
Precious Bland waived her right to a jury trial and instead had a bench trial, where Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Miguel de la O acquitted her of multiple criminal charges, including for the death of her daughter.
During the trial, defense attorney Larry Handfield argued Bland suffered a psychotic episode triggered by COVID-19.
Handfield told NBC6 that Bland was experiencing command hallucinations, with voices telling her to baptize her family members, who were also infected with COVID-19.
“It’s just a clump of cells. Granted, it’s been breathing on its own for 15 months, but it’s still a clump of cells.”

The judge has a degree in poly sci. Yeah, he’s an objective mind. Heaven help us against the anti American revolution in American jurisprudence.
It’s too bad we can impeach judges whose decisions are overturned a certain number or a certain percentage of the time. This would really cut down on activist judges. They do not want to lose their cushy jobs.

DC has 1 lawyer for every 21 people. New York has ~1 lawyer for every 106.4 people.
I respect good (= ethical) lawyers, but what are all these people doing for a living, and how many are doing harm? California has ~1.3 million lawsuits/year. All justified? Half justified? Why should US law schools (only ~11% of the faculty of which identify as Repubicans) have such a far reaching effect on our lives?
Not quite sure why. But killing a baby will always result in a lighter sentence.
