Hiker [swimmer?], 23, falls over famed Yosemite National Park waterfall after online death reports

The National Park Service is investigating an incident involving a 23-year-old male at Nevada Fall in Yosemite National Park on June 20, 2026. Emergency personnel responded to the incident, which remains under investigation. No additional information is available at this time,” the NPS told The California Post.

...

“There were a bunch of friends that were dragged by the current in the top of Nevada’s fall today. The girl was saved but another person with her went with the current to the fall,” a user on Reddit said.

The person went on to say a rescue helicopter appeared in the area about an hour later.

Another user reported seeing a body recovery mission at the park over the weekend.

“I was hiking Mist Trail this afternoon when people in yellow shirts (my first time there, guessing they’re emergency response of some sort) rolled a body bag down the granite steps on an off-road stretcher. We all had to step to the side so they could make it down the steps,” they said.

The identification and condition of the 23-year-old is not officially known.

The word awesome is overused these days. But those falls are awesome in the literal meaning of the word. I just stood there at the overlook and watched all that water flow down into canyon.

There is no way I would go anywhere near that water. The only other time I felt that way about water was at Niagara.

Too many S’mores. Mother nature has a lot of ways to kill you if you’re out there and haven’t got a clue what the hell you are doing.

The person fell AFTER he or she died?

If the person’s identity isn’t known, how do they know he is she is 23 years old?

If the person’s identity isn’t known, how do they know he is she is 23 years old? And how could they not know his or her condition if they already announce that he or she is dead? You know what. Forget it. I have too many more important things to think about.

Was the victim named “Nevada”?

Was Nevada’s fall over Nevada Falls fatal?

Said the same thing when I was at the top.

They should post better warning signs by the running waters...

Something like this...

It wont make any difference to most.

About 50 years ago, I took my sister and BIL on a hike from Glacier Point to Nevada Fall and Vernal Falls. The Mist Trail descends 3,000 feet down the granite staircases alongside the Merced River past the falls. My sister froze in absolute petrified fright on the hike down. I had one heck of a time shaking her out of it and getting her moving again.

It’s a spectacular place with the stunning 600 ft waterfall, but it’s not for the faint of heart and unforgiving of stupidity. There are always stupid people ignoring warning signs and barriers. Some pay with their lives.

I meant Valley, not canyon.

It goes from the foot of Nevada Falls to Vernal Falls, and then to Yosemite Valley.

When I reached 40, I realized how lucky I was to make it that far!
