Tesla has finally clarified the situation regarding the viral crash in Texas where a Model 3 slammed into a home.
CEO Elon Musk replied to reports on Monday that stated the crash was due to the company’s Full Self-Driving or Autopilot suite, which seemed unlikely to those who are familiar with it. Video showed the car slamming into a house at an excessive rate of speed, making it highly unlikely the crash was due to the suite’s operation, as it does not travel at those speeds in residential areas.
Musk said:
“This makes no sense. FSD drives slowly through neighborhood streets, and this was a high-speed crash!”
Tesla’s Head of AI, Ashok Elluswamy, added context, revealing that the company’s data shows the driver “manually overrode self-driving by pressing the accelerator all the way to 100%.”
He revealed the speed reached by the car was 73 MPH, and the accelerator was still pressed “even after the crash.”
Yup. In this case, the driver manually overrode self-driving by pressing the accelerator all the way to 100% of the accel pedal in this residential area. They reached a speed of 73 mph during the crash, and had the accelerator pressed even after the crash.

And now they love the true Nazi in Maine. I think everyone knows the media is a joke at this point.
I am forced to wonder why would ANYONE mash the accelerator to the floor on a car in a local neighborhood?
Something does not add up with this driver.
I bet what happened was ... something the car did in full self driving mode scared the driver and they attempted to slam on the brake, but hit the gas instead resulting in a crash where they are accelerating into the home.
“the accelerator was still pressed ‘even after the crash.’”
I would think a spring would pull it upward as soon as the driver’s foot would allow.
That sounds quite plausible!
Tesla records and reports every data point for every sensor in the car, just like a Flight Data Recorder in commercial airlines. This makes it the perfect witness to any accident or system failure. They are the safest cars on the road, and with FSD, they drive better than 98% of the humans on the road.
Also possible, I can file a lawsuit that Tesla’s car did something unsafe and almost kilt me! let’s put it in auto drive and say it just sped up on ots own with me in it! payday!
If the driver thought he/she/it was panic breaking to avoid a crash, the closer to the house the harder he/she/it would press on the “brake” pedal...
How long until they start having the car override the driver?

we own a new model Y and especially when we were getting used to full self driving, it would often do something that scared us. Not because it was making a mistake, but we just hadn’t built up enough trust yet to just let it drive.
It wouldn’t take much to scare someone new to FSD. Just taking a turn a little faster than you might yourself would be enough. Respond by slamming on the brake.. but hit the gas pedal instead and WHAM accident.
I’m sorry Dave.
I can not do that Dave...
Not everybody, people in the media like Scott Pelley think the media is 100% accurate. And the libs who watch MSNOW, CNN, PBS, etc have no clue that the media is basically a Leftist activist group.
I had wondered if it is possible to intentionally crash a Tesla. It seems the answer is “yes.” I expect this oversight will be amended in the next OTA update.
The driver should be executed. This is murder.

Went for a ride in my friend’s new Tesla model Y last week. He never touched the wheel except for finding my weird-ass unmarked driveway and seeing if he could get a better fit between the lines on a parking place. (He didn’t)
I was nothing but impressed.
How I wish that was true.
I can't believe the number of people I encounter who still think everything from the media is gospel.
Suicide. Heart attack. Wasp.
Was thinking the same. Probably 3 to 5 years.
