We’ve come to a point in time when the men and women who created the golden era of rock music are in their late 70s or 80s.
Many have died or retired, but some remain – plowing away as best as they can.
This applies to 81-year-old British rock icon Rod Stewart, still touring and raising controversies.
About a week ago, Stewart had to cancel a show at the last minute over health issues, only to be seen attending a World Cup match and indulging in alcoholic beverages.
Now, the former ‘Faces’ star was forced to pause his Friday night concert in Utah and breathe oxygen from a tank onstage, explaining afterward that he nearly fainted.

Rod was great on Jeff Beck’s Truth album after Beck left the Yardbirds. Never liked him much after that. I do believe the story that the Stones got Ron Wood for the rights to Maggie May “ (which supposedly Jagger and Richards wrote).

Yes I am very familiar with that band and their group of friends. Great stuff.
The tradition of musicians playing until very old precedes rock and roll. It gets down to what drives many of them — the love of the music. Some don’t get it and that’s fine.
Rod Argent (Zombies, Argent band) kept performing until he was 79 and had a stroke. So he retired from performing but still writes music. Colin Blunstone is still going and last I checked could still hit the high notes in the bridge of Tell her No.
Many from that age group continue to play - Carlos Santana, Steve Howe, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney. Too many to name. Oscar Peterson didn’t retire. He kept performing until a year before died at age 82.
Seeing old rockers and rock bands is just stupid now. I tried a few a couple years ago and had some fun but it costs too much to see what is basically a cover band.
I now see cover bands for 1/10th the cost and they can sing unlike many of the older rockers. Free parking and no additional fees.
I swear he looked dead when I saw a clip of him on youtube.
I saw Chicago and Earth Wind and Fire recently and to be honest, they are just cover bands at this time.
Cheaper to just catch a real cover band for $10 at a club with free parking.
They are much better than the current version of Chicago.
I heard Paul McCartney recently and he needs to retire. His voice is gone.
We got to see Leonid and Friends last year in Nashville, Indiana. Excellent show!
Well he is 84. That’s a lot of years of singing those high notes. Many won’t even live to 84. Hats off to him.
We’ve seen them four times. Always incredible.
I saw McCartney a long time ago, post Wings era. His bandmates hit every note and had the same timbre when they played the Beatle songs. It was uncanny. But it was in an indoor arena that held 18 000. So loud, I made impromptu ear plugs. Heard it perfectly..I would see it again if I could.

I really like McCartney but the recent footage I have seen, he is bad, really bad. Needs to retire.
