New 2027 AI Eyes Confirming Final Death Of Private Drive Autonomy
Autopost vis msn ^ | 05 17 2026 | Bryce Morgan

The auto industry is inching toward a future where your car doesn't just assist you—it actively evaluates whether you should be driving at all. As early as 2027, all new vehicles sold in the United States could be required to include advanced driver-monitoring systems that track eye movements, behavioral patterns, and overall attentiveness in real time.

This push is part of a broader safety effort to reduce drunk and drowsy driving. To comply, automakers would need to integrate real-time driver-analysis systems built around cameras and sensors that monitor eye position, head movement, and driver focus throughout a trip.

The real question is how far these systems go. If a driver is flagged as potentially unsafe, the response may extend beyond simple alerts. Depending on how the systems are configured, they could limit vehicle operation or even prevent the car from being driven. That represents a meaningful shift, with the vehicle taking on decisions that have traditionally been left to the driver.

Sounds like I’ll be hanging on to my older-model vehicle for a little while then.

I guess thats one way for the Auto makers to commit suicide.

It's only suicide in the same manner that the Jonestown Massacre was a mass suicide.

I may buy another car or truck.
But, I will never buy a new one again.

Unfortunately, I’m not a youngster anymore. Doubt that they will ever miss my business.

I buy a used car when I buy one. I probably won’t live long enough to buy a used 2027 model.

There’re going to be a LOT of night shift workers that can’t get home from work because they’re judged to be too drowsy by their own car.

This should never come to fruition. Violation of 4th amendment rights, right off the bat.

We just bought 2 new cars. We tend to keep them for 10 years.

Maybe by 2036 they’ll have gotten rid of this stupidity.

Neil Peart saw it coming:

My uncle has a country place
No one knows about
He says it used to be a farm
Before the "Motor Law"
And on Sundays I elude the eyes
And hop the turbine freight
To far outside the wire
Where my white-haired uncle waits

Jump to the ground
As the turbo slows to cross the borderline
Run like the wind
As excitement shivers up and down my spine
Down in his barn
My uncle preserved for me an old machine
For 50 odd years
To keep it as new has been his dearest dream

I strip away the old debris
That hides a shining car
A brilliant red Barchetta
From a better vanished time
We fire up the willing engine
Responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel
I commit my weekly crime

Not to mention conferring liability onto the manufacturer and software developer for damage and injuries caused by faulty ‘Autonomy’.

They’ll just find more stupidity to add to it. This is just a little more “1984” happening.

“all new vehicles sold in the United States could be required to include advanced driver-monitoring systems that track eye movements, behavioral patterns, and overall attentiveness in real time.’

COULD BE.

If some really weird thing happened.

I have a droopy-eyed friend whose Toyota Crown periodically alerts on thinking his eyes are closed while driving.

First reaction: The spying units will be ripped out.
Second reaction: Companies will form to remove them.
Third reaction: This won’t happen. Lawsuits will occur which will go up to the Supreme Court, which will uphold the right to privacy. Also, the Federal government is limited and does not have this power.

Do you remember people ripping out their catalytic converters? I do. Do you remember people passing their California regulations with deceitful add-ons? I do.
