I have not yet read the full trial transcript. But so far, I do know this. Karmelo Anthony was entitled to a jury of his peers. He did not get that. On that ground alone, he is entitled to a new trial. Minorities are not interchangeable. The prosecutor’s reported proffered reasons for striking all black jurors —that they were teachers—appears to be pretext. Anthony needs a new lawyer on appeal and in a new trial. His trial lawyer allowed in opinion evidence that should have been struck. He also seemed unable to appreciate and counter the impact of racial overtones in that case. Those overtones are clear even on Twitter commentary as folks seek to paint Metcalf as having no culpability in what happened and Karmelo as a complete monster. ....

“No white defendant should ever face a jury which contains any blacks. Right?”
Or a jury that contains no whites?
Yup! Why bother having a trial of a black murderer if you’re going to pre-load the “Jury” box with all Afrikans. We already found out that don’t work during the O.J. fiasco.
Burlette, your full of you know what. If I was a White man and facing what Karmelo was/is facing, I would trust an all black jury of fine, upstanding, vetted, employed, no history of chip on their shoulder, black folks. Once in a blue moon, due to circumstances beyond anybody’s control, an all black or all white jury will be necessary to achieve justice.
Man, this “perfeser” is a real piece of meat with two eyes. I feel bad for whoever paid for her “college participation certificate”.
I said all along, that this would be the route they take. More than likely, they will find a judge to rule this way.
I think its crap, but it is what they do.
I got excused from jury duty due to medical problems, one of which was and is being hard of hearing. Made the point that I couldn’t give a fair hearing to the parties because I couldn’t undertstand the testimony or jury instructions.
Probably a panel of appellate judges. It’s Texas, so I don’t know how they do.
“Bear in mind black get off easy killing blacks all the time.
But that’s just part of their culture and none of Whitey’s business.”
That’s actually one of the pillars of Jim Crow. Rape, kill, maim a fellow black, well, the police won’t look to hard for you. Still practiced to this day in the South Side of Chicago.
But the corollary of that is, you touch a white, you’ll be lucky to survive to face a jury. The fact that this black kid faced a jury, no white sheet brigade, but was convicted, that’s what they’re all morally outraged about. Some “moral outrage”.
They give law degrees to just about anybody these days,
I’m sure some federal judge will jump in to save him.
Had to go look up the clip of O.J. and the gloves to make sure I remembered it correctly. “If the gloves don’t fit you must acquit!” If you’ve ever had on a pair of snug fitting gloves then you probably know that it’s a bit of trouble getting them on and almost as much trouble getting them off. After O.J. struggled mightily to get those gloves on, when he’d made his “point,” he slipped them off in a split second.
It’s a state case. So you’d have to convince a judge that it’s a federal matter, civil right something-or-other, or appeal straight to SCOTUS with a write of certiorari. Good luck with that. Hardly ever happens.
Solid point, pfflier.
I completely missed it.
J6 defendants didn’t get anything like peers. Pound sand, all the race warriors who want open season on whitey
They got pre-trial punishment, medical neglect, months of solitary without trials and without convictions. Banana republic BS.
There should be a new sentencing hearing — one that includes the pics/video of the lil’ angel posing as an angry shirtless gangsta’, with machine pistol jammed down his pants while he waives fists full of cash, and throws gang signs. Good kids want to be a doctor, fireman, jet pilot, etc. Karmelo demonstrated what he aspired to be: a murdering criminal. There are many reasons he didn’t take the stand in his own “defense”.
His peers are angry young black males. Try getting a conviction regardless of the evidence.
If they claim his civil rights were violated by improper jury, they can make it a federal case. It has happed many times in the past.
