Pizza Hut, the 68-year-old chain that has long struggled with growing competition and outdated restaurants, will be sold for $2.7 billion by parent company Yum Brands.
Yum said Tuesday that the private equity firm LongRange Capital will buy Pizza Hut, excluding the mainland China business, for about $1.5 billion.
The mainland China Pizza Hut will be purchased by Yum China Holdings Inc. for approximately $1.2 billion, the company said. China is Pizza Hut’s second-largest market outside the U.S., accounting for 19% of sales.
Yum Brands, which also owns KFC and Taco Bell, began to explore its options for Pizza Hut in November. Last year, Yum Brands’ global sales rose 5% but Pizza Hut’s sales fell 2%.

Kids love it and a large pepperoni is $6.49 this week!
I'm not a snob so it tastes good to me.
Pizza Hut only delivered selectively in certain markets.
Domino’s was the first major delivery chain.
This is the only place we get pizza now:
Long-rise sourdough crust, wood fired ovens, and good toppings. The place is always packed, and they do a land-office takeout business too. We usually get take-out so we can eat in a quieter environment.
I worked at one from 1978 to 1979.
Small delivery store one block off a college campus.
They had 3 sit down restaurants in the city.
“I wish there were still Shakeys or Round Table near me.”
Shakey‘s is where we went after football games and such back in the 70’s.
It’s still there, and I think they still go there after games and such.
Bob’s big boy was on an adjacent corner. We went there too.
Bob’s big boys fries dipped in Bob’s big boy blue cheese dressing.
That is really yummy. It’s way better than ranch dressing.
Wait, what? Pizza Hut is Chinese now???
Yeah, the new General Tso’s chicken pizza is to die for.
No big loss. Pizza Hut is awful.
For the price, Little Caesars is not too bad. But Pizza Hut is worse than frozen. Even before they are cooked.
Next on tap? Jersey Mike’s.
I met one of the greatest people who was a waitress at a Pizza Hut in Rock Hill.
She was a super nice and all around great person.
At times the only friend I had in the world for a while it seemed.
RIP Janice.
Massey’s!
Agreed that Masseys is far superior but they only have a handful of locations. Donatos has more than 400 locations nationwide.
“Just go back to the way Pizza Hut use to be”
A few weeks ago, there were news stories that that’s exactly what is supposed to happen.
“Pizza Hut is actively leaning into nostalgia by converting hundreds of its restaurants into retro “Pizza Hut Classic” locations.” (AI)
I grew up in Columbus and its suburbs, and although I’m now stuck behind enemy lines in Southern California, I’ve occasionally had Massey’s ship me 4 pizzas out here in Dry Ice.
Too expensive nowadays for that, but they were a nice treat!
I actually used to live near the Massey’s in Whitehall for a few years when I was growing up.
They need to bring back the restaurants with the checkered table cloths, salad bar, the red cups, and the original pizza recipes! I’d be there every Friday night!!!

And old-fashioned toilets, you know, the box and the chain thing.
