Trump calls for Senator Reed’s impeachment over criticism of Iran dea
WPRI (Rhode Island) ^ | June 15, 2025 | Ted Nesi

Posted on 06/15/2026 6:40:24 PM PDT by Miami Rebel

President Trump lashed out at Rhode Island U.S. Sen. Jack Reed on social media Sunday, hours after Reed criticized the president’s handling of Iran during a national TV interview.

Reed, the top Democrat on the Armed Services Committee, reiterated his longstanding criticism of Trump’s Iran policy on “Fox News Sunday,” arguing that the U.S. was now “in a much worse position” than under President Obama’s Iran nuclear deal, which Trump pulled out of during his first term.

“I think the precipitating issue today is the president wants to give himself a birthday present,” Reed said. “And we have paid for it with hundreds of billions of dollars.”

Trump — who often shares his reactions to the Sunday shows on social media — posted an attack on Reed to his Truth Social platform at 4:22 p.m., calling Reed “either an outright fraud, or incompetent.”

“Senator Jack Reed, a Dumocrat from R.l., lied when stating the the Deal we just made is not as good as the Obama disaster known as the JCPOA,” Trump wrote. He argued Obama’s deal “was a road to a Nuclear weapon for Iran,” while his would be “a WALL” against that.

The president added: “Impeach Jack Reed!"

“It is deeply sad that this is a message from the president of the United States,” Democratic gubernatorial candidate Helena Foulkes wrote on social media. “Rhode Islanders are lucky to have Jack Reed fighting for us in the Senate.”

U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse simply reposted Trump’s post accompanied by a GIF of Jack Nicholson in the movie “A Few Good Men” saying, “You can’t handle the truth!”

The R.I. Republican Party had not issued a statement on the matter as of midday Monday.

They can be expelled with a two thirds vote I believe.

No...

They can be expelled, however.

Wouldn't make much sense for them to be impeached as that just adds another step for the House to also be involved. The Senate alone expels its own members, just as the House does for its own members.

There's a fat chance of 2/3 of Senators voting to do this, however. His own caucus would probably want to give him a commendation for this.

He’s 76 years old and has been in the senate for 30 years.

Rhode island? The size and population of a city and a Senator that thinks like a city councilman!

“I think the precipitating issue today is the president wants to give himself a birthday present,...And we have paid for it with hundreds of billions of dollars.”

I very much doubt that amount of money. I suspect half of the held funds will be released.

I see no reason the terms of the deal could not have been released as soon as the negotiators finished their work.

I’ve posted this before:

There’s about a refrigerator size amount of dangerous material hidden away in a fairly large country. Anything less than a peace-loving Iranian government is going to carry risks.

With a hostile Iranian government, financial incentives will have to be the main tool.

My suggestion:

A dollar or dollar’s worth of impounded Iranian funds shall be released per tanker barrel of Kuwaiti/Saudi/Qatar/UAE oil that freely sails out by Gulf tanker and passes a point in the Indian Ocean at least 300 miles from the northern tip of Oman after acceptance of this agreement and prior to December 1, 2025 EST.

Iran to be able to load at Kharg & export one barrel for every four exported by Arab nations listed above that freely sails out by Gulf tanker and passes a point in the Indian Ocean at least 300 miles from the northern tip of Oman, provided Iran ceases enrichment, stops nuclear usefulness centrifuge work, terminates nuclear reactor construction, and submits to IAEA inspection, to be cut in half if not to IAEA satisfaction.

Other releases of impounded Iranian funds:

$4 million per quarter (by US IRS standards) per kilogram of U-235 in 15%+ enriched uranium turned over (440kg of 60% - $3.96 billion/year) to be released on IRS estimated tax due dates, give or take two US federal business days.

per top model centrifuge turned over
$10 million first 500
$5 million all others

per previous production quality model turned over
one-fifth the amounts

The amount for a centrifuge to be cut by 40% for every full 14 calendar days dating from the time of agreement of its not being turned over.

The amount for a centrifuge to be additionally cut by 50% if repairable but inoperable and by 80% if junk. The applicable percentages to be determined by the IAEA with appeal rights to the PRC.

$50 million/quarter if no attacks from Lebanon
$20 million/quarter if no attacks from Gaza
$100 million/quarter if Israel is not attacked

US military aircraft to leave Gulf Arab states no later the third midnight local time after 100kg by U-235 of 15%+ enriched uranium turned over.

Turn over to be under IAEA supervision to the PRC, India, EU or IAEA and only counted once it leaves Iranian control and territory/airspace/waters.

Can US senators be impeached?

No, they can't. And these would be ridiculous grounds even if they could be. You don't impeach someone for disagreeing over the wisdom of a deal.

Well he should be impeached but not for saying what he said, just for being a commie idiot. I think the deal has to be released, that way there is no more “Well I heard from sources” these “Sources” are all over the damn place and every single one of them contradict the other, so I think the sooner this deal is released to the public, the TRUE deal, than everything can be put to bed

“The possibility that Congress would take any kind of vote on the agreement is also a legacy of the 2015 deal. Amid bipartisan concern about the Obama administration’s pursuit of nuclear talks, the GOP-controlled House and Senate that year passed legislation allowing for congressional review of any agreement dealing with the Iranian nuclear program.”

Simpler times, quicker results:

“The Burr-Hamilton duel was a famous confrontation that took place on July 11, 1804, in Weehawken, New Jersey, between Vice President Aaron Burr and former Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton, resulting in Hamilton’s death the following day. This duel stemmed from a long-standing political rivalry and personal animosity between the two men.”

With the clowns we have in DC, this should be brought back into vogue. IMO

US Senators cannot be impeached or recalled.

They can only be unelected, or expelled by other senators.

And this is the first time I've ever heard of him. Wow!

You've really got to be a nothing of a man to be a U.S. Senator for 30 years and still be a gray man.
