Anthony Stewart Head, best known for his roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Merlin, has died at the age of 72.

He was surrounded by family at the time of his death, with his daughters, Emily Head and Daisy Head, sharing the heartbreaking news with the BBC. They shared he "passed away peacefully after complications from pneumonia."

Initially known for his Nescafe commercials, Head gained international fame when he landed the role of Rupert Giles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He took on a fatherly role for Buffy Summers, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, as he helped guide her in the world of vampires, creatures, and other supernatural threats that were attraced to the Hellmouth.

With that role, he became known as one of the best TV dads ever, stepping up when Buffy wasn't even his biological child. He also became a father figure to her friends, Willow and Xander, and many others who would come into their lives over the course of seven seasons.

He would go on to appear on Little Britain and Merlin, and most recently, he played Rupert Mannon on Ted Lasso. He also appeared in Doctor Who, Motherland, and the BBC 4 radio show, The Archers, in 2018.

He was also in “Jonathan Creek” for a season or two. He had a very passable voice and I always liked when he sang on “Buffy”.

On Buffy his professional acting was a breath of fresh air compared to all the children. Especially Sarah Michelle Gellar who was a one note actress - pissed off all the time. For some reason I was watching the director's commentary on an episode and the director said he needed SMG needed to smile and laugh. He said it was nearly impossible to get her to do that.
