Rush Was Right
American Thinker ^ | 5 Jun, 2026 | Bradley Steffens

What was once controversial (when Rush Limbaugh said it) is now mainstream.

On April 20 of this year, onetime liberal firebrand Alan Dershowitz announced in a Wall Street Journal op-ed that he was officially leaving the Democrat party and registering as a Republican. Discussing his decision the next day with Newmax’s Greg Kelly, Dershowitz stated, “I cannot be associated with the Democrats in any way. I want to see them defeated.”

A longtime listener of the late, great Rush Limbaugh, I had to smile. For thirty years, Limbaugh had said the same thing, and been vilified for it. The “reach across the aisle” crowd, including Republican lawmakers and failed presidential nominees, condemned him for being divisive. But Rush was adamant. “These people cannot be dealt with, cannot be compromised with,” he told his radio audience for the umpteenth time on May 7, 2018. “They have to be defeated.”

Dershowitz is only the latest of a growing number of commentators who, knowingly or not, are echoing El Rushbo’s most controversial statements. For example, in the early 2000s, America’s Anchorman was denounced for suggesting that critics of the Iraq war were actually rooting against American success so they could gain political advantage. “They not only wanted the war in Iraq to fail; they proclaimed it a failure,” Limbaugh told the audience at the Conservative Political Action Committee meeting on February 28, 2009. “There’s Dingy Harry Reid waving a white flag: ‘This war is lost.’”

In April 2026, conservative commentator Victor Davis Hanson said virtually the same thing about critics of the Iran War. “Anything that looks unfortunate from the point of the American success in Iran, they cling to,” Hanson told the audience of his April 14 podcast for The Daily Signal.

I agree with you.

Back in the day, when I used to call myself a libertarian, I had to explain to people why I thought democrats were a bigger threat than republicans. That is because democrats have socialists in their tent, and republicans have neocons. As selfish as this is, and I admit it, starting forever wars does not affect me personally as much as socialism does.
But democrats would protest so heartfully how socialism doesn’t run the democrat part and they are just a few fringe characters. I could not penetrate this delusion because back then, democrat leadership and democrat politicians would conceal their marxist proclivities.

Not anymore. It is out there for anyone to see.

Of course, the hardcore democrat voters don’t care. Many will still deny it. Others actually subscribe to wealth and property confiscation.

The trick is, which is on topic here, convincing the rational and critical-thinking democrats who they are aiding. The old blue dogs, particularly the rustbelt blue-collar democrats have already switched.
People like Dershowitz are more of the coastal and/or beltway democrats are harder to win. You have to ware them down with reality.

How I miss Rush. His wisdom and his ability to teach and explain are unmatched today. He did more to save the Republic than anyone except for Trump.

he Updated List, (done on February 18th, 1994.)

1.) There is a distinct singular American culture—rugged individualism and self-reliance—which made America great.
2.) The vast majority of the rich in this country did not inherit their wealth; they earned it. They are the country’s achievers, producers, and job creators.
3.) No nation has ever taxed itself into prosperity.
4.) Evidence refutes liberalism.
5.) There is no such thing a a new Democrat.
6.) The Earth’s eco-system is not fragile.
7.) Character matters; leadership descends from character.
8.) The most beautiful thing about a tree is what you do with it after you cut it down.
9.) Ronald Reagan was the greatest president of the 20th century.
10.) The 1980’s was not a decade of greed but a decade of prosperity; it was the longest period of peacetime growth in American history.
11.) Abstinence prevents sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy—every time it is tried.
12.) Condoms only work during the school year.
13.) Poverty is not the root (”rut”) cause of crime.

15.) If you commit a crime, you are guilty.
16.) Women should not be allowed on juries where the accused is a stud.
17.) The way to improve our schools is not more money, but the reintroduction of moral and spiritual values, as well as the four “R’s”: reading ‘riting,’ ‘rithmatic,’ and RUSH.

20.) There is a God.
21.) There is something wrong when critics say that problem with America is too much religion.
22.) Morality is not defined by individual choice.
23.) The only way liberals win national elections is by pretending they’re not liberals.
24.) Feminism was established as to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society.
25.) Follow the money. When somebody says, “It’s not the money,” it’s always the money.

My somewhat liberal daughter told me recently SHE misses Rush. She still disagrees with many things he said, but she admitted that HE ACTUALLY BELIEVED WHAT HE SAID. Unlike so many commentators on the Internet now. And politicians. Particularly Republican ones.

I don’t disagree that the extreme leftists are anti-American.

But, the article picked a terrible example to try to make Limbaugh’s point.

There are plenty of anti-Iran war folks who support Trump. Indeed, Trump campaigned as a non-neocon, non-forever war guy.

And yet, here we are.

This gave rise to another TDS crowd - Trump Deity Syndrome. Suddenly, people who hated forever wars and mocked Billy Kristal et al are now all-in on Iran. Back in the day, we corrected our wayward children. Trump is the President, and works for us.

My point isn’t to argue whether we should be involved militarily with Iran like we are. My point is that one can be anti-Iran war and pro-Trump.

Also, Rush is a band first and foremost.

First, quit using the stupid and fake phrase “forever war”, it sounds like some leftist stoner magic phrase that they make up and which make no sense.

Trump gets a pass from me so far on Iran only based on the fact that it is far too soon to call it a “forever war” just yet. I didn’t say that I was an isolationist or non-interventionist. It just makes no sense to start incursion without a clear cut goal and/or exit strategy though.

Trump may have got bad intel from Israel just like GWB got bad intel from the UK and our own agencies. If they didn’t realize that this could end up in a long term process of constantly having to play whack-a-mole with whoever keeps rising next to run the potential insurgencies, they should have. You’re never going to have a true “regime change” until you have a fully established regime with a powerful counter-insurgency of their own that doesn’t depend heavily on us.

The difference between Trump and GWB (unless I am wrong) is that I believe the Bush admin wanted the bad intel on WMDs. They wanted the excuse. I don’t believe Trump was looking for an excuse.

Sure.

I’ll use Trump’s preferred phrase, “endless wars”.

Donald Trump: ‘We’ve Got to Get Out of These Endless Wars’
Breitbart ^ | 3 Feb 2019 | Charlie Spiering

President Donald Trump detailed his position Sunday on withdrawing troops United States from Afghanistan and Syria. “We’ve been there for 19 years, almost, we are fighting very well. We’re fighting harder than ever before. I think they’re tired and, I think everybody’s tired,” Trump said. “We got to get out of these endless wars and bring our folks back home.”

Trump knocks ‘ridiculous Endless Wars’ amid US troop pullout from Syria

President Trump on Monday said it is time to remove the United States from “ridiculous Endless Wars” after he decided to pull back American troops from northern Syria amid an impending Turkish military operation there.

“The Kurds fought with us, but were paid massive amounts of money and equipment to do so. They have been fighting Turkey for decades. I held off this fight for … almost 3 years, but it is time for us to get out of these ridiculous Endless Wars, many of them tribal, and bring our soldiers home,” Trump tweeted.

It would be an improvement, especially if you are a politician complaining that wars should be shorter, whatever that means when it comes to war.

How long is this current bombing campaign you are implying is a forever war?

47 years.

We should have annihilated Iran in 1979, and again after Beirut.

But we didn’t. Instead we’ve played Tag.

This latest round of Tag will do nothing except drive inflationary pressures and hand Congress to the Dems in November. That will spawn House hearings blah blah blah that waste the last 2 years of Trump 2.0. All because someone was called Chicken.

47 years, all over a petulant leadership that can’t deliver water to the capital and can’t hit Maine. Let Europe waste their money and treasure.

The only way the govt of Iran will change is if her citizens go Ceaușescu on their leaders. Until then, not our problem.
