Paul McCartney: McCartney: Taylor Swift is as big as the Beatles
The Telegraph UK ^ | 25 May 2026 | Robert White

Sir Paul McCartney has finally named an artist he would rank alongside his former band – pop queen Taylor Swift.

In an interview with BBC Radio 2’s Tracks Of My Years, the 83-year-old music veteran expressed his admiration for the American pop singer, describing her as “clever” and a “very good” performer...

He said: “You do see the parallel of the amount of fame and the worldwide fame that Taylor Swift has and that we had [as the Beatles]…

But Swift questioned comparisons with the Beatles during an interview in December.

Stephen Colbert, the host of The Late Show, suggested that the reception to her must have been similar to the rock band, to which she responded: “I don’t know, I think they had a whole thing going.”

Yep, nothing she has done will stand with time. She is just a fun show for the young groupie girls. Like Candy Pop music.

Her songs often reflect those girls issues.

That is music anymore. Some female puts on wild outfits, adds a little santanic style BS to it at times, gyrates around on stage, and sings forgettable “songs”.

New and Memory Almost Full are excellent efforts. But I agree with you that some (many?) of his songs are trash.

I am a huge Beatles fan and also don’t know a single Taylor Swift song.

That said, I have very distinct memories of old people back then saying Glenn Miller’s music will be popular forever and this Rock and Roll will be forgotten as throw-away fluff. Or words to that effect.

Well, yeah. Taylor has a lot bigger marketing team than the Beatles ever had.

Posted before I read the rest of the comments.

I hate the term "music industry", but that's what Taylor Swift is, a manufactured product.

If you’re a huge Beatles fan you might want to check out a tribute band on YouTube called The Analogues. They play the Beatles music and play it very well. They also have the appropriate string and horn sections so the songs sound very much like the studio originals.

Of course, you can find original Beatles music on YouTube as well, but the recordings are old, usually scratchy and/or deteriorated.

Corporations have taken over “music”. All AI harmonies and lyrics. Brain sugar, visuals, attitude, etc.

That doesn’t surprise me. I’d much rather hang out with Phil Collins than with Paul McCartney.

What the hell has happened to this forum?

Jim is no longer in control. I don't think anybody is.

It's kinda like the show "Jeopardy!". It used to be about topics of substance, like history and literature.

Now it's All Pop Culture, All The Time.

There is room in this world for humor, is there not?

Sir Paul did meet, date and I think he even married a woman with one leg... She didn’t lose it after they met... She was wearing a prosthetic when they met.

Except I don’t know a single Taylor Swift song.

My wife occasionally plays her crap. Every.Single.Song sounds exactly the same and the lyrics generally have to do with a break-up or poor romance choices.

She has zero talent.
