A Virginia high school graduation descended into chaos when a spectator rushed the stage and attacked a student who was walking to receive his diploma.
Evan J. Williams Jr., 20, was arrested Thursday and charged with disorderly conduct and damage to private property in connection with the brawl that broke out during John Marshall High School’s graduation ceremony at Virginia Commonwealth University, according to police.
A 12-second viral video of the violence posted on Facebook shows the moment several attendees began to fight on the students’ special day in front of shocked family members just before 11 a.m. Wednesday at the school’s Siegel Center.
At least four university police officers are seen rushing toward the front of the stage to break up the melee, as other audience members jump in to join the fracas or scramble to help stop it.
Several more altercations broke out outside the Siegel Center as police worked to break up the initial fight and clear the venue.

It’s them again, Yogi.
When I attended public high school it was actually a prep for AT LEAST junior college.
That was back in the days when black kids were bussed into our school in a misguided effort to have racial equality throughout the school system.
Nobody liked it, the white kiss didn’t, the black kids didn’t and the parents didn’t either.
The reason there wasn’t a lot of trouble between the cracks was the black kids were outnumbered probably 5 to 1.
Without that distraction, back then the quality of the education was actually very good.
Of course that was in the late 70s.....since then the public education system in this country has gone to shit.
> we tend to look at only one data point of a complex system <
Yes. Here’s something else you might find interesting. As I noted earlier, I was city public high school teacher. Most of the disruptive students in my school were black. They’d interrupt classes, start fights, etc.
But most of the true psychopaths were white. These were the manipulative liars, the schemers, etc.
Somebody ought to do a study on why that was so.
Re your post 23.....it all starts at home, no matter what race.
The American Dream in Polk Co was to live and work in portions of the county not inhabited by any of the above, and it was a dream pursued in the county not only by whites, but also by upper quintile blacks, Indians (mostly in medicine), Vietnamese, and legal Mexicans, Cubans, and Venezuelans. To quote the guy the civil rights movement quotes and then spits on, it's not the color of the skin but the content of the character.
“ Side note: Even in my worst classes, most of the kids were good”
And that is why it is essential that whoever is the authority, in the case of schools, the principal, deals with the students who are being disruptive. A tiny percentage will continue to disrupt even if they are held to account. A much larger percentage will join disrupting with them if there is no accountability.
That is why things are getting so bad in the sanctuary cities. If every person who shuts down an intersection, for example, was put on a bus, taken to a police precinct, booked and let out with even a small cash bail, they would never join such an activity again. The ring leaders would still do it again.
Yep, didn’t have too. Tribal violence has no place in America. Shows how incompatible some people are within a civil society.
Considering the community, it’s fair to say it was a “mostly” peaceful brawl.
Amazing no one broke out a nine with an extended clip.
“Shows how incompatible some people are within a civil society”
Shows how incompatible some ETHNICITIES are within a civil society.....and a lot of hispanics aren’t far behind.
I’m familiar with John Marshall HS. 90+% black
Worthless diplomas to animals who can’t read what is printed on the paper.
agreed. Just didn’t say because of how sensitive some folks on FR can be on certain issues.
Yogi.......
Our local HS (Coppell HS) just graduated 1000 students a week ago. No incidents, good show.
“Amazing no one broke out a nine with an extended clip”
Just a guess but it wouldn’t surprise me if they had to go through a metal detector before being admitted.
In the city school district where I taught, principals were evaluated on reducing suspensions. They would get bonuses for doing that.
This all started maybe 20 years ago.
So instead of suspending a disruptive student, the disruptive student was sent right back to class. Teachers were told to handle things on their own. Well, you can’t be an effective teacher and a policeman at the same time. Something’s gotta give.
That’s one reason why I think big-city school districts are beyond saving. And as I noted earlier, it’s the many good kids who suffer the most.
If it’s fact I really don’t care about anyone’s delicate sensibilities. 😏
Them, or "teens."
To get “their” diploma or to get “his” diploma?
