The Commodores subsequently announced that they would not be performing at Freedom 250.
'Our music has always been our voice and we choose not to publicly affiliate with any single political party,' the funk act said in a statement on Instagram. 'We support the betterment of all Americans.'
Country music hitmaker Martina McBride also joined the list of cancellations on Thursday.
'I was presented with an opportunity to perform at a nonpartisan event but that turned out to be misleading,' McBride wrote in an Instagram post, adding that she had 'asked lots of questions and was assured this was a nonpartisan event that was meant to celebrate ALL 50 states.

Yup. The performers themselves were probably good to go, or else they wouldn't have agreed in the first place. But agents, studios and major producers stepped in ... and I would not be surprised if an even smaller circle is pulling the strings on them.
I follow movies more closely than music, but in the film world, the source of the rot is with the big studio execs, some of the big wheel producers, the outside investors (e.g. the hedge fund and BlackRock types), and the outside activist groups. The big studios are terrified of landing on someone's blacklist and being hit with public controversy and boycotts. Some of the actors are loudmouthed fools themselves, but most of them are gig workers always nervous about their next job.
Many of the actors are apolitical (and they know that they're not well educated and don't have anything substantive to contribute). There are more closeted conservatives than one might suspect from the public face of the industry. The Hollywood blacklist, however, is real, and it is run by the studios. A lot of actors just try to keep their heads down because 20 people can scuttle their chances for a role, and all it takes is one of them to play commissar.
The country is your oyster, Mr. President.
Instead of casting swine before pearls, how about finding us some hidden gems instead...

Hollywood investigations were done in the house on American activities committee.

The other day I told the story about how Humphrey Bogart co-founder “The Committee For The First Amendment” (CFA), which was opposed to HUAC.
Then he discovered the people he was defending were really Communists, and he disavowed the group.

Thos os what happened at the Kennedy Center. The performers and patrons cla8m partisanship on the admibistrations part as the reason they are actually boycotting for political reasons. Unless Trump is asking them to donate to the RNC I’m not sure how their argument stands.
