Holy crap….
Those things make a mess when that happens.
Most unfortunate. Rockets are hard.
Hmmmpf!
Not even a Mag -0.01 magnitude earthquake recorded in the USGS earthquake database!
Something was flashing and flaring up down low and to the side of the main engines during their engine startup in the first stage.
Then the second stage was illuminated from the side - like a flame or flare going up the outside of the rocket - that tripped off the second stage fuel tanks and oxidizer tank.
Once that stage went? First stage remaining fuel and oxidizer went off.
Still pretty. I really prefer everything to go smoothly, but it’s mostly been doing that, so seeing a kaboom once in a while is kind of a treat. 😁
Funny.
But cold.
This was the static test.
That was the only pad rated for the New Glenn. Will set them back bigly.

Didn’t see it happen, but heard it from 17 miles away. I assumed it was thunder since we had storms earlier. Launches here on the Spacecoast have become so routine with SpaceX that people don’t pay as much attention to them...unless it’s a big one like an Artemis launch. It’s become like NASCAR...people watch for the crashes.

Clean-up on Pad 2 ……
