Denver International Airport is preparing to open portions of a mysterious underground tunnel system that has long been plagued by conspiracy theories.
Officials announced plans this week to convert sections of the airport’s underground baggage tunnels into pedestrian walkways connecting concourses A, B and C.
The tunnels, which have long fueled speculation involving secret bunkers, "lizard people" and underground military facilities, will become an alternative route for passengers traveling between terminals.
Currently, travelers primarily move between concourses using the airport’s underground train system.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston acknowledged the airport’s unusual reputation while discussing the project.

It’s gonna show that the Masons meet there on Tuesdays, the Order of the Spooge on Thursdays.
Thunderdome!
You are correct. I never went through MCI.
Between the Rayburn bldg and the US Capitol there was a tunnel with a little trolley that mere citizen could ride. I don’t know the current restrictions on its use now.
IAD is the worst airport I’ve ever changed planes in. A lot of up and down stairs/escalators to traverse the airport. The architect needs a singapore style caning.
I’ll take the tunnel over hiking across the runway.

Had those at Texas Tech.
I recall Art Bell taking a call from someone who described the tunnels when DIA was being constructed. Since it was the Clinton years, there was a lot of skepticism about those tunnels when the suspiciously mundane baggage handling explanation was offered.
Seriously, I’ve never had a connection leave on time. Gates always changing, ugly airport. I try to avoid connecting flights in Denver.
RIP Art
Haven’t heard Art Bell’s name in years.
Art and his callers kept my mind active during my late, late MidWest drives to work sites.
Denver’s baggage handling system was a disaster when the airport opened. Didn’t know they had ripped it out, thanks for the info.
My most hated airport in the entire world (where I have travelled) is Newark.
There were ballistic missiles silos out there before the airport. Sure, there were probably tunnels and old silos. That doesn’t mean aliens.
if i remember correctly, those tunnels were supposed to house a fully automatic, multi-billion dollar baggage sorting system that had to scrapped because they could never make it work ...
With pain and insomnia due to a health crisis, I started listening to Art and soon became a fan. He and Limbaugh were friends.
And then he murdered his wife or she suffocated herself with a pillow.
“I recall Art Bell taking a call from someone who described the tunnels when DIA was being constructed.”
Art missed his chance to say they housed black helicopters. He did his broadcasting from Pahrump which is an unincorporated town located at the southernmost tip of Nye County, Nevada, United States, about 50 miles (80 km) west of Las Vegas. He never lost the effort to be amusing. If you get the opportunity, visit Pahrump. It’s an entertaining little town from family adventures to the two most famous brothels in Nevada, Sheri’s and the Chicken Ranch. Never a dull moment in Pahrump.
