Mysterious airport tunnels to open beneath hub long tied to conspiracy theories (DIA, Denver colorado)

Denver International Airport is preparing to open portions of a mysterious underground tunnel system that has long been plagued by conspiracy theories.

Officials announced plans this week to convert sections of the airport’s underground baggage tunnels into pedestrian walkways connecting concourses A, B and C.

The tunnels, which have long fueled speculation involving secret bunkers, "lizard people" and underground military facilities, will become an alternative route for passengers traveling between terminals.

Currently, travelers primarily move between concourses using the airport’s underground train system.

Denver Mayor Mike Johnston acknowledged the airport’s unusual reputation while discussing the project.

Just when the new Spielberg movie “Disclosure Day” is set to disclose something! Coincidence? You decide.

Maybe it was the old reprint book from the airport gift shop:
Bring ‘Em Back Alive by Frank Buck. Made it safely out of Chicago, clutching the book.

The university I attended for undergrad and grad had tunnels - some between dorms and the cafeteria and others that were off limits - steam tunnels mostly but rumors and stories proliferated beyond that. I eventually got to see one of the ‘forbidden’ tunnels as an employee that lead to library archives.

They should hire Geraldo Rivera to open that underground tunnel. He’s good at that sort of thing.

When I was teaching Adult Ed I had a student that firmly believed that Walmart Stores had connecting tunnels for FEMA to house citizens as prisoners. The guy was a recovering addict - so I gave him the benefit of the doubt...

At FR, FEMA was building detention camps on the roofs of closed Walmarts.

We also used to get a lot on the Denver airport conspiracy.

I liked the underground people mover that goes thru a cool illuminated tunnel out to concourse C.

I take it you never went through MCI (Kansas City) before they built the long-delayed new terminal. Most airports at least had decent amenities airside. MCI you were lucky to find a vending machine and a small restroom for each set of gates served by a security checkpoint. And walk out through the rain and snow across the access road to get to the tiny 3 sided bus shelters serving the rent-a-car buses. All around, a miserable experience either arriving or departing.

The underground tunnels at Denver International Airport (DEN) were originally built to house a highly advanced, automated underground baggage system. While the system failed and was abandoned due to mechanical failures and software issues, the tunnels are primarily used by maintenance workers and luggage carts.

Airport officials are transforming sections of these underground spaces into pedestrian walkways to connect Concourses A, B, and C, providing passengers with an alternative route during airport train disruptions.
