For many millennials, the economy can feel like a game of musical chairs where previous generations already grabbed the seats, refinanced them at 3% interest and now insist there are still plenty left if younger people would just "budget better." Somewhere along the way, the American dream started feeling less like a finish line and more like one of those carnival games rigged just enough to keep people throwing money at it.
That frustration spilled into Reddit's r/economy subreddit when one millennial who grew up in the 1990s posted a blunt message about the growing disconnect between younger Americans and boomers over money, housing and financial expectations.
"I'm a millennial who grew up in the 90s and what boomers don't understand about us is that we're working three times as hard for a third of what they had at our age," the Redditor wrote. "And the milestones they want us to hit weren't postponed by laziness, they were priced out of reach by the economy they voted for."

The Boomer generation is typically regarded as one of the greediest the country has ever seen.
That animosity that exists between particularly GenZ toward Boomers is causing GenZ to embrace ideologies that to me are quite alarming.
It is true that an objective assessment of the voting patterns of Boomers as a whole and in particularly the leftist Boomers who typically dominate the generation have quite resoundingly not been healthy for the U.S.A. GenZ's anger over this is understandable.
I know the article posted is about a Millennial's comment but GenZ has been hit the hardest by what the Boomers have done.
It used to be what can you do for your grandchildren but we see in this generation what can your grandchildren do for you? The fact is that it is quite unfair for GenZ and Millennials to have to subsidize the largess of the Boomers.

I doubt they work three times as hard or for 1/2 the pay. Life was not a TV show.
younger kids are PISSED that older generations sold them out for open borders, H1Bs, “diversity”, outsourcing, and CHEAP LABOR.
Thank the Bush family, the Romneys, the Mccains, and all the other open border neoCON free traitors.
“muh corporation! muh free trade!”
Some of what they’re pointing to is inflation.
The dangerous part is that because everybody surrendered their offspring to government schools to become indoctrinated, they’re GenTyranny.
Both generations(GenZ; Mill.) have no concepts at all about Natural Law, our liberties as enumerated in the Constitution, God’s Gifts to us of freedom at man’s creation, the goodness of the U.S. founding, or anything else we all would understand as healthy things for the future of the country.
They have a real resentment for a genuine problem that the Boomers did in fact create with their greed at the helm.
“The Boomer generation is typically regarded as one of the greediest the country has ever seen.”
Can you cite a legitimate authority for that or did you just pull it out of your ass?
Anyone who maintains that has had to have lived throughout many generations for comparison, which is impossible, or has to be an historian who has studied that for decades, and there are not too many capable of doing that.
Define "greed".
I don’t know if it’s that bad, but it’s definitely a generation that isn’t going to be doing better or as well as the one before. It’s a generation that is struggling to get by and the AI robots aren’t even here yet.
The generation that really likes some wine with just about everything...
1913 and 1971
Things happened in those two years that lead to the financial situation we all find ourselves in today.
Boomers had little to do with it. They just happened to be around before things got really bad.
My first full time job paid just over $5,000 per year. Now, around here at least, Culver’s pays 14 year olds $15.00 per hour.
“3 times as hard” probably includes at least 50% of their time checking cell phones and watching reels and TikTok videos.
And their budgets include all kinds of eating out or delivery fees, manicures, fancy hair appointments, car detailing, etc. Not like we did it eating ramen noodles in a basement apartment furnished with concrete blocks, rough lumber shelves, and milk crates.
There seems to be a reality break here, IMHO.
I’m an old guy, but I’d agree it is definitely harder for young people to buy a car, a house and get a family started. To me it seems like this is a given and I don’t see how anyone can dispute that fact...
But majorities are majorities and the Boomer generation is not the best the U.S. has produced.
I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure Bill Ayers is a Boomer. You want to talk about America's problems Bill Ayers exemplifies it.
Boomers are the first generation to be PROUD of the fact that their kids and grandkids will be WORSE off than they were. Every other generation in history hoped that their kids would be better off. Not worse. It’s ridiculous.
This country has been handed over to foreigner who are stealing everything. All the good jobs are gone. School costs a lifetime of debt slavery. Housing is unattainable for many kids who can’t start families. This is wrong. And I am neither a boomer or a millenial but I can see for a fact that these kids are getting screwed over.
When I was in my late 20’s, I went to college till 3pm, drove to work and worked until midnight and then started it all over the next day.
Study and homework on weekends.
I did this for 2 years.
I had a calendar I would cross out every day as I got closer to graduation.
Got a 3.73 GPA.
Now THAT is hard work.
My four millennial children and their families seem to be doing better than my wife and I were doing at their age and they aren’t working anywheres near as hard as we were working. So good for my kids. Glad they don’t fit the general description of those complaining.
If by Boomers, they mean the scum in DC past and present that enslaved Americans and robbed the Treasury, then yup.
Let’s blame them..
Problem is I suspect the ignorant yutes think Govt is great and Awesome.
Especially that Seditious conspirator Obama dude!
I used to think so highly of the Bush Family, then, starting in year 2006, W start getting ‘wobbly’ with protecting our borders. And like a lit candle, that admiration and trust I had in George W. Bush began to slowly melt away, until almost nothing remained that anyone could call ‘conservative’. All of this yielding to emotion and surrender of rules paved the way for The Kenyan.
