Ferrari is getting ABSOLUTELY DRAGGED for its first electric vehicle

Remember when everyone thought Ferrari was cool? Not anymore.

Yes, even the manufacturer who once furnished Magnum P.I. with his sweet red convertible has gone electric.

Here's a video announcement of the car if you want to see the fine details:

Needless to say, the internet was not universally excited by the electric Ferrari reveal.

Who wouldn't want to shell out (checks notes) $640,000 for an electric sports car? Don't worry, though. This model is sure to die a quick death and be relegated to the dustbin of automotive history.

On a positive note, this toy-looking electric Ferrari is almost certainly a sign that we're in the end times.

Come quickly, Lord!

Is this fully-electric or a hybrid? I would think that Ferrari could get away with hybrid with an ICE still on-board. Keonigsegg makes hybrids that will outdo anything Ferrari makes. Of course, it helps that Keonigsegg builds the hybrid around an ICE that pretty much requires aviation fuel to run properly. They aren’t designed to be a green machine.

Almost every auto racing car (excluding exotics/vintage) with a livery is wrapped prior to the season or race, depending on what sponsors have paid for in graphic exposure. Livery can change from weekend to weekend. Chassis are generally offered by the builder as “body-in-white”. The rest is up to the teams.

These wraps are significantly more expensive and durable than commercial offerings and require different application process to ensure they stay put at speed.

Todays useless trivia. :-)

One of the many problems with EVs is they can be a menace to people other than the owners. Last year one caught fire in the parking garage at the airport in my city, eventually burning up half the cars on that level.....not to mention millions in damage to the parking structure.

Too bad you couldn't get that on film. That's a pretty rare occasion these days considering gasoline cars are 61 times more likely to catch fire than EVS.

I think you confused my post with someone else. All I said, is that Allstate removed charging stations from their parking garages...

“Electric vehicles should be banned, but Elon has too much political clout.”

________

There’s bumper stickers I’ve seen on Teslas around town here that state: “We bought this car before we knew Elon was crazy.”

Talk about stupid people.

Anyhow, I like that we’re developing electric vehicles, just don’t agree with forcing them onto the marketplace or essentially outlawing the combustion engines with over-regulation.

Oh, please explain why you would ban electric, when ICE cars get into fires 120 times more commonly. Sure, those battery packs are very difficult to put out, but is one battery-pack fire more of a problem than 120 regular car fires?

Did I say anything about safety or fires?

Haha my daughter is mid-30’s and she is in charge of processing clinical trials data for new cancer drugs for a large hospital. She began driving my car in high school and has a flawless driving record.

I saw news coverage of this yesterday.

The exterior painting on the two cars that were shown looked like some kind of movie hoax.

Since nothing has been mentioned about the designers, I am thinking females, or non-whites, or both.

A Ferrari has to be RED. When I got out of college, I wanted to one day own a red Ferrari and an Aston Martin Corniche classic. Reagan was president.
A quality assurance inspector at my last employer had a baby blue Tesla…….fit her quite well.
I have to see that Ferrari in red to judge. It is not a bad looking car….probably goes from zero to 100 mph in 6 seconds.

Now that everyone hates it, it’s time to run right out and buy one as prices drop through the floor.

Ex-Apple chief designer Jony Ive and his creative agency

He messed up the Apple iPhone icons, because he didn't want the icons to look like what they represent (skeuomorphic). The end result was Romper Room.

The mistake Ferrari made was that someone like Jony Ive would not be satisfied making a beautiful Ferrari. It must be a departure in order to make it clear to the world that this is a Jony Ive work. Kind of like those movie makers who purposefully ignore the source material when making movie versions of everything from Classic English Literature to DC Comic Superheroes.

Jony Ive subscribes to the "Ten Principles of Good design".

Here is #5:
is unobtrusive – Products fulfilling a purpose are like tools. They are neither decorative objects nor works of art. Their design should therefore be both neutral and restrained, to leave room for the user's self-expression.

If someone is going to lay down $600k for a Ferrari, he wants it to be more than a car. He wants it to be a work of art, too.

It is telling that Jony Ive used to drive a Fiat 500.

Yes, because when the ICE car catches fire, it is almost always when gas meets spark, while it is being driven. EVs often catch fire charging when unattended or stored overnight. It is a really big problem when it happens on a ship with hundreds of other electric cars, or in an EV bus depot, parked next to other EV buses. Both have happened. Some overseas carriers will not transport EVs for that reason.

(I have had TWO car fires . . . a '73 Dodge Dart slant six, and a 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis. The Merc was a total loss. The Dart just had a '71 slant-six thrown in for $300.)
