Felix Rosenqvist capped his magical May by edging David Malukas in a last-lap drag race to the Yard of Bricks with the highest stakes, winning the 110th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the closest finish in the century-plus history of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”

NOT the old Indy Race...
[I still like the 4WD/AWD thoughts...]
A Swede wins the Indy 500.
About a million years ago I worked for Lotus in Chicago. Ran the showroom, made nice $$$ selling Elites and Elans People thought a woman couldn’t do it, but I did very well made more than friends with ordinary jobs.
Jim Clark was driving at the Indy that year, so we piled the kids into the back seat and drove down to Indianapolis.
Big fun until about the middle of the race when my kindergarten daughter had enough and started screaming and crying. Bless her tiny heart, she got nothing but sympathy from other people in the stands. “I feel that way too” they said. Long race!
Today she’s midair flying to Hawaii i for a birthday week with friends.
Most exciting Indy finish I’ve seen.
He is tbe third Swede to do that after Kenny Bräck (1999) and Marcus Ericsson (2022).
Folks that don’t know the Indy 500 much don’t know the international appeal it has. Most folks think of the Indy 500 as a purely American thing. I have a French friend who goes to the Indy 500 every year.
Did the tour and museum but never a race. The place is an absolute shrine and jaw dropping.
This is a rather poignant day for me. One of the crew dogs on the Rosenqvist car (front tire changer and transmission guy) is the son of a dear friend of mine who was part of a group of us who raced/crewed Datsun 240’s in SCCA events from the mid-80’s ‘til today, mostly notably numerous times at the 24-hour race for production cars at the Nelson Ledges Road Course track in Ohio. Sadly, he passed away last year. I’m sure he is smiling today.

Ed crashed out quite early.
The most I’ve ever seen of it, thanks for posting it. It was only on the radio and CCTV at theatres when I was a kid and run on Memorial Day which wasn’t a Monday Holiday, (5/30 I think). Parnelli Jones and AJ Foyt in those days.
I can’t tell you that, but here is something interesting about the history of the race:
Who refused to drink milk after winning the Indy 500?
Emerson Fittipaldi
Indianapolis 500 milk tradition started in 1936
Nearly every winner since has taken part, with one famous exception. In 1993, Emerson Fittipaldi shocked fans by refusing the milk in Victory Lane and choosing orange juice instead, promoting Brazil’s citrus industry.Dec 16, 2025

A.J. Foyt I heard was hand full.
Ed Carpenters Team Manager Tim Broles

He managed a Three Car team this race.

Rough Times.
I’ve seen people crash in 4 on the final lap. I’ve seen double passes on the last lap. I’ve never seen someone go 3 to 1 in one lap on the outside.
In other thoughts, it’s amazing how every time there’s a competent female in the race she gets taken out by someone else’s crash early on.
Despite the fact that mechanically throttle doesn’t care whose plumbing is pressing on it females are at a disadvantage to win due to the T factor — but conversely you’d think they’d be better at at least getting TO the end. But no. Total punt in 2025 and spin in front *failing to lock the brakes and trying to save it* drifting back up the track today. So it goes. That’s not ‘conspiracy’ but with so few female drivers at the top levels so it goes. A shame.
