'The Godfather' Returns in 2027 With the Untold Rise of Connie Corleone

The Corleone saga shifts to Connie as author Adriana Trigiani and Paramount revive 'The Godfather' with a new novel and film adaptation.

More than three decades after the final installment of The Godfather trilogy hit theaters, the Corleone family is officially returning with a new chapter — and this time, the story belongs to the daughter, Connie Corleone.

According to The Associated Press, Random House announced that bestselling author Adriana Trigiani will write Connie, a new novel authorized by the estate of Mario Puzo, with a planned release set for fall 2027. Paramount Pictures is also developing a new film adaptation tied to the project, extending one of Hollywood’s most influential crime sagas into a new era.

The upcoming novel will focus on Connie Corleone, the overlooked but pivotal daughter of Don Vito Corleone, originally portrayed by Talia Shire in all three films. According to Random House, the book marks the first Godfather novel written by a woman and only the third officially approved continuation from the Puzo estate.

Paramount currently controls the screen rights to the franchise following a long-running legal battle between the studio and Puzo’s estate over ownership of the Corleone characters.

The return of The Godfather arrives more than 55 years after the original novel changed crime fiction forever. First published in 1969, the book introduced mainstream audiences to terms such as “consigliere” and “Cosa Nostra” while helping to redefine the gangster genre in American pop culture.

The 1972 film adaptation directed by Francis Ford Coppola went on to become one of the most celebrated movies ever made, winning Best Picture and helping launch the careers of stars including Al Pacino and Marlon Brando.

Trigiani said the new novel will explore Connie’s rise in a world dominated by powerful men. “Connie is a novel about how a woman works to forge her own way in a world that’s already decided who she is,” she said in a statement.

She added that underestimating Connie Corleone would prove just as dangerous as underestimating Vito or Michael Corleone. Anthony Puzo, Mario Puzo’s son and executor of the estate, said the family specifically sought out Trigiani after reading an essay she wrote about the women of the Corleone universe and how little attention they had received over the years.

The project also revives a franchise that has remained culturally dominant long after the release of The Godfather Part III in 1990. The original trilogy earned nine Academy Awards and more than $400 million worldwide while influencing generations of filmmakers, television writers, rappers, and crime dramas.

The films have also remained staples in music and sports culture, referenced everywhere from The Sopranos to hip-hop lyrics to modern meme culture.

Appolonia was a capricious and imho dimwitted but cunning character who dues quickly .

Connie night be an interesting character. After her husband is murdered by her brother’s orders, she becomes a vengeful demon?

We really never saw how Don Corleone got to his position, GF II left off after he killed Don Fanucci and just got his start. They could show him working with Hyman Roth in the 1930s.

Connie was great in the original Godfather.

BUT, she was played to lure Sonny, and she fell for it.

In Godfather II, she was an embarrassment to the family . . .A loose woman with boy toys and a trail of ex-husbands who was got back at her family by trashing her own reputation.

By Godfather III, she was reconciled to what Michael thought he had to do to “protect the family”, does everything she can to pull him back in as he is trying to pull out (while still acquiring even more power), and murders a traitor with poison.

This is darn near the definition of a hot mess. In that world, women and children don’t have to be careful, but the men do. Sonny wasn’t careful (in part because of Connie). Michael was careful and shrewd, but not wise. I don’t see anything based on Canonical Connie that would get her anywhere near the levers of power without wrecking the whole operation, like a torrent of machine gun bullets hitting a car on the New York Causeway.

It's best to let the whole franchise “sleep with the fishes” at this point.

Does the movie industry have to sequel and remake everything? Like forever?

There are quite a few movie between the 30s and the 50s that featured a girl crime boss. I recall seeing them as a kid back in the day and I’ve come across the titles surfing streaming sites. There was nothing annoying stupid or objectionable about them because the female leads were feminine and the male supporting characters were men. That ain’t the case with modern women boss pictures. There the woman are basically written as snotty mean snarling men and the men are ball-less cutouts. I don’t expect much from this rehash. She’ll be Don Corleone only tougher and smarter.

Livia Soprano has already defined the role of the powerful Matriarchal Gangstress.

And, I personally believe she was modeled after Livia, wife of Augustus in “I, Claudius”.

She was one cast-iron witch.

If the Puzo Family have authorized it, maybe it won’t be so bad.

Just DON’T sell the franchise to Disney!

Remember Star Wars.

Livia, wife of Augustus in “I, Claudius”.

Wonderfully acted by SIan Phillips in the 1976 BBC production .
