Multiple sources confirmed to Fox News Digital the male gunman who allegedly opened fire with a pistol Saturday near the White House in Washington, D.C., and was fatally shot by the U.S. Secret Service, has been identified as Nasire Best, 21, of Maryland.
At about 6 p.m. local time, the suspect allegedly approached a Secret Service checkpoint near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, removed a weapon from his bag and began firing at posted officers, a Secret Service spokesperson said.
Best, who allegedly had prior encounters with the Secret Service and a history of mental health issues, fired about three shots toward the executive mansion before he was taken down by Secret Service agents, according to a senior administration official with direct knowledge of the incident.
The White House was placed on lockdown, which was later lifted.
As many as 30 shots were reportedly heard in the direction of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
The senior official said the suspect never got inside the general perimeter of the White House grounds.
Best was detained by the Secret Service on June 26, 2025, for flagging down agents and making threats, and again on July 10, 2025, for entering a restricted area, Fox News has learned.
All members of the Secret Service were reported safe, though one uniformed agent was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

I doubt it. This is not the secret service of twenty or thirty years ago. I'm surprised 4 or 5 bystanders weren't hit.

My cousin was an Army Ranger in Vietnam. He told me that it's amazing how many shots can be fired in a firefight without anyone from either side being hit. (I was in the Air Force - so I didn't have to be in the Army.)

I’m surprised the Secret Service Barney Fifes were able to hit him at all. They must have had their eyes closed and by a miracle they hit him.

I would suggest that very few people could have pulled and hit the guy at the dinner. If you watch that video in real time the entire thing happens in about a second.
The thing that people learned at the dinner was that you need three or four people to pull off that kind of attack. If they were stacked and running…that could have been a real problem. (Except the doors were locked and no one was getting out of that room.)
What was in the perp's blood. Drugs, pushed or prescribed. Everything.
Second, objectives? Making a statement? Murder (s)? DBC?
And third, influences. Might inflammatory statements by many in entertainment media, Congress, and those high profile folks who were once in high authority have pushed the individual over the edge? One would love to learn what is learned by investigating the perp's social media and written material.
We might have much to learn, hopefully it's all released in a reasonably short time.
