A vaccine to tackle the runaway Ebola virus now surging through central Africa can be developed within 100 days, an international disease response group vowed Friday.
The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) funds the development of new vaccines and is looking at potential candidates for the Bundibugyo strain, for which there is no current known vaccine.
Jane Halton, CEPI’s board chair, highlighted an urgent need for a vaccine, saying the number of cases recorded so far may be only the tip of the iceberg and a swift response is essential.
“I can guarantee you that we will be in a position to respond faster than we would have been five years ago,” Halton told journalists in Geneva, Switzerland.

As of late May 2026 (around May 22), there is an ongoing Ebola outbreak (Bundibugyo virus strain) mainly in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), with limited spread to Uganda.
Latest Reported NumbersSuspected cases: Around 744–836 (vast majority in DRC, primarily Ituri Province, with spread to Nord-Kivu and Sud-Kivu).

Having read Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, and also having lived through the insanity of the last six years, gonna have to say no thank you.

and after a couple of weeks testing on a couple of hundred people, 100 billion doses will be ready to go!
An effective Ebola virus vaccine would be great. A broad-spectrum hemorrhagic fever vaccine would be better.
But the administration has done what Bush 1 (SARS) and Obama (Ebola) failed to do, which is to ban arrivals from the epidemic zone (except for US citizens, who are being screened).
Effective control of national borders is a key weapon in dealing with serious threats - which Ebola is.
If Ebola were circulating in your town (which is very, very unlikely) - you would crawl over broken glass to get a vaccine (if one existed).
