Former first lady Michelle Obama was raising two young girls while living in the White House. And while she had her fair share of “traumatizing” moments during her husband’s presidency, one overseas trip really pushed her to her limit.(snip)
Michelle recalled the “messy conversations” she had with White House staffers after the “impossible” travel schedules became too much for her young daughters, Malia Obama and Sasha Obama — now 27 and 24, respectively — to handle.
The Obamas moved into the White House in 2009 with two young daughters — Malia, then 10, and Sasha, then 7. Michelle quickly realized that staffers were more focused on diplomatic schedules than on what worked for her kids.
During one overseas trip, the family was rushed through several countries in just a few days, with public appearances starting the moment they landed. After barely sleeping on a flight to Russia, her daughters were thrown in front of cameras at ceremonies and official events.
“They maybe slept for three hours on the plane with jet lag. And I had to go in and wake them up knowing that they hadn’t had sleep,” she recalled, adding that she asked herself, “Why are you here?”
The exhaustion eventually caught up to Malia, who turned to her mother and said, “I’ve never felt this bad in my whole life.”
“Honey, that’s jet lag,” Michelle told her.
Looking back, Michelle said the experience horrified her. Once they returned home, she confronted her husband, Barack Obama, and their team. “I was like, ‘This is crazy. This is ridiculous,'” she recalled.
From that point on, the rules changed. “After that trip, we told our team, ‘Don’t ever do that. Don’t plan a trip that if we land, the kids have to work right away,’” she said.

Exactly. Her mother lived at the WH. The girls should have stayed in DC with Grandma.
Leave the kids at home. It’s not like anyone wants to see them or day care is an issue. This is not difficult. If I had to make a 9 or 10 hour flight and my young kids didnt have to go, I’d leave them home.

Every job has a learning curve. Learning curves are not inherently racist or victimizing. They are challenges to which intelligent people rise and from which they learn how to plan better, communicate more fully, and assert their negotiables and non-negotiables.

Well it didn’t bother her to much with all the overseas vacations she took.

Just returned from overseas, didn't sleep a wink on the 10 hour flights, had seriously packed tourist schedule, came back tired but thrilled I was able to do what I did. Michelle is an ungrateful loser.
