European security services are investigating suspected Iran-linked attacks on synagogues, Israeli sites, and opposition groups.
Germany’s domestic intelligence agency has warned that Iran could expand covert operations across Europe once fighting with the U.S. and Israel subsides, raising fears of attacks on Jewish targets, Israeli institutions, and opponents of the Tehran regime.
The Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz (BfV) said Iranian dissidents and other individuals regarded by Tehran as “traitors” would face particular danger if the regime increases its intelligence and proxy activities across the continent.
One BfV official told Euractiv that the service is monitoring individuals based in Germany who have travelled to Iran for military training, or otherwise “placed themselves in the service” of the Iranian authorities.
Intelligence agencies across Europe have also been investigating a growing wave of attacks on Jewish and Israeli-linked sites believed to be connected to a shadowy Islamic network suspected of acting as an Iranian proxy. The incidents have largely involved arson, vandalism, and small improvised explosive devices targeting synagogues, Jewish charities, and Iranian opposition organisations.
Separately, EPP MEP Tomáš Zdechovský reported on Tuesday morning that several police forces across the European Union have uncovered “a vast online network of accounts and websites spreading propaganda linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.”
This group, the IRGC, was only designated as a terrorist organisation by Brussels in January this year, following Tehran’s deadly crackdown on mass protests.
Zdechovský said the authorities had “succeeded in removing thousands of links” and blocking the organisation’s main account on X (formerly Twitter).

Today, appeasement is usually regarded as a failure because it did not prevent World War II.

Correct. And right after 9/11 George W. Bush had a unique opportunity to crush radical Islam. The entire civilized world was with us.
A firm and brutally clear response was needed, much like how FDR responded after Pearl Harbor.
Instead, Bush told us “Islam is peace.”
We are paying for Bush’s stupidity now. And I fear we will be paying much more in the future.

Well, since you asked…
Step 1: Clearly identify the problem. And declare war.
That’s something FDR did after Pearl Harbor.
And something W refused to do.
Step 2: Identify and shut down every mosque in the US that has even the smallest whiff of radicalism. Deport the leadership.
Just like how FDR shut down the German-American Bund.
Step 3: Punish al-Qaeda and the Taliban.
Make the rubble bounce. And quietly put Saudi Arabia on notice.
None of that ridiculous “nation-building” crap.

And interned the Japanese-Americans.
Your question really got me thinking. So permit me to add something to Step 1 of my post #18.
A public information campaign would also be needed. Make it clear that a “religion” that preaches death to the infidels, death to anyone who draws a picture of Mohammed, etc. - that’s a religion deserving of close scrutiny.
Such a campaign would have to be handled delicately, and with great care. It would also be necessary.
