‘I’m afraid he won’t make it’: How Thomas Massie is handling the toughest election of his career
CNN ^ | May 14, 2026 | Jeff Zeleny

Posted on 05/17/2026 7:56:56 AM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

Joni Pugh feels like she’s stuck in the middle of a bitter family feud between her president and her congressman. As a loyal Republican, she likes them both – and that is where her predicament begins...

“I’m not putting Trump down at all because I’m very much a fan of his, but I’m still going to vote for Thomas. He’s a great guy and is very careful about how he wants our taxpayer money to be spent.”

Massie has fought the establishment of both parties since first winning his seat 14 years ago in the tea party era as a fierce deficit hawk...
Massie also helped lead the charge to direct the Justice Department to release its investigative files into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein...
He’s also been among the loudest Republican critics of the Iran war, which he said has made him a target for strong supporters of Israel...

In one of his closing ads, Massie reminds voters that he has often stood with Trump...

“I agree with President Trump a whole lot more than I disagree with him. The list is long: the SAVE America Act to require proof of citizenship to vote, stopping immigrant welfare, fighting the woke agenda, defending the Second Amendment, protecting the life of the unborn, securing the border.”...

Massie faces Ed Gallrein, a farmer and former Navy SEAL whom Trump and his allies recruited into the race... Gallrein said as he announced his candidacy..."The president doesn’t need obstacles in Congress — he needs backup.” ...

“You can’t escape it. It’s everywhere,” Pugh said of the advertising deluge. “...I’m afraid he won’t make it this time. I don’t think he’s ever gone through anything like this.”

Trump is going after Boebert too now. He goes after hard conservatives with ten times the gusto he does Democrats or Thune or Johnson or Cornyn or Graham etc.

we need a few more genuine conseratives in both houses of Congress, or at least a few more people who are not deliberately obstructionist or just vain media hogs
who seek and relish the limelight or adoration of the leftwing mass media

>>Republican Party pissed away its hold on so many swing seats

Not to mention the expertise the Dems have gained in new and exciting ways to cheat.

‘fealty to the party fuhrer”

Usually we have to look to Antifa to get a good “Trump is Hitler” reference, but here you are saving us the effort.

The Massie fan club reminding us what they are made of.

Or maybe you missed the government lying about foreign threats since the 1950s.

CNN running to the rescue tells you all you need to know.
They did the same thing with Crazy Liz.
It didn’t end well.

Quite a bit of that is because Bush removed Saddam, who, again, was a bogus threat. Hussein was a jackass but he kept a lid on things.

Removing Saddam only empowered Iran.

Thank you for sharing your opinion.
Some people pursue the truth however it looks. Trump calls out people who obstruct MAGA agenda whether they have postured as MAGA or have been fair-weather MAGA supporters, or whether he once endorsed them or not.
An endorsement is a judgement on the facts known at the time and the alternate choices. When new facts emerge the endorsement decision can be revisited. Anyone who does not revisit decisions in the face of new facts is not only a fool but also an insecure person, afraid to admit a mistake as judged on emerging facts.
Boebert took either a foolish or a revealing stand. She is supporting one of America’s enemies. Boebert has made questionable choices in the past. This one may define her. Small loss.

Well the “Trump is a Puppet” wing of FR needs decide whose puppet he is.

Right now you are offering us Duelling Puppet Masters which is very confusing.

Other than that you all have a low opinion of Trump’s ability to think for himself there is no consistency.

We need consistency. On this thread alone he is a Fuhrer, an Israeli puppet, and a UAE puppet.

Team Massie needs to settle on exactly what Trump is so that the rest of us can learn.

I said, “If anything”. I think Trump’s strategy is a much broader vision. He’s not just doing it for Israel, but as part of a comprehensive vision for the future of that region, and yes, even Russia and China, can have some of the spoils if it happens. But for it to happen, the Mullahs in Iran have to be eliminated.

Yup. And let the CIA create ISIS, deposed Assad and set the Middle East on fire. Sorry if I don’t trust the government to act completely in foreign affairs.

If he was dragged into it by Netanyahu and the neocon thugs you most certainly can point at Israel. We’ve gone from America First to Mark Levin and Lindsay Graham’s goblin squad in about six months.

Strangely Galllrein has a very powerful conservative platform and a compelling background. He hasn’t just occupied a seat in congress with no legislative accomplishments for 14 years.

Iran kidnapped our Embassy personnel in 1979. The same time that they began labelling us The Great Satan and committing acts of war against us.

Dubya invaded Iraq and killed Saddam in 2003.

Unless some mystery Time Travel known only to Team Massie is involved, your “Bush caused it” theory has a 24 year problem to explain away.

Trump calls out people who obstruct MAGA agenda whether they have postured as MAGA or have been fair-weather MAGA supporters, or whether he once endorsed them or not.

Who "defines" what is or isn't MAGA?

Because a lot of Trump's actions thus far this year are not what any sane person would describe as "MAGA". (Most recent example regarding the 500K Chinese he says should be let in to American universities.)

Trump targeted him because he opposed every MAGA bill and initiative and because Massie’s self promotional activities have squandered the window to revive the American dream & promise.
The Epstien accusations are mud thrown at the wall. Trump gave information on Epstein to assist the victims decades ago. Their lawyers and others in the know are on video saying that none of the victims ever suggested Trump was involved. It is a mark of Massie’s complete lack of moral compass that he would repeatedly use baseless accusations as a weapon.
