‘I’m afraid he won’t make it’: How Thomas Massie is handling the toughest election of his career
CNN ^ | May 14, 2026 | Jeff Zeleny

Posted on 05/17/2026 7:56:56 AM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

Joni Pugh feels like she’s stuck in the middle of a bitter family feud between her president and her congressman. As a loyal Republican, she likes them both – and that is where her predicament begins...

“I’m not putting Trump down at all because I’m very much a fan of his, but I’m still going to vote for Thomas. He’s a great guy and is very careful about how he wants our taxpayer money to be spent.”

Massie has fought the establishment of both parties since first winning his seat 14 years ago in the tea party era as a fierce deficit hawk...
Massie also helped lead the charge to direct the Justice Department to release its investigative files into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein...
He’s also been among the loudest Republican critics of the Iran war, which he said has made him a target for strong supporters of Israel...

In one of his closing ads, Massie reminds voters that he has often stood with Trump...

“I agree with President Trump a whole lot more than I disagree with him. The list is long: the SAVE America Act to require proof of citizenship to vote, stopping immigrant welfare, fighting the woke agenda, defending the Second Amendment, protecting the life of the unborn, securing the border.”...

Massie faces Ed Gallrein, a farmer and former Navy SEAL whom Trump and his allies recruited into the race... Gallrein said as he announced his candidacy..."The president doesn’t need obstacles in Congress — he needs backup.” ...

“You can’t escape it. It’s everywhere,” Pugh said of the advertising deluge. “...I’m afraid he won’t make it this time. I don’t think he’s ever gone through anything like this.”

If the Republican message is more wars, more spending, more Israel and less Massie they will lose every election.

Massie hasn’t really changed. The GOP has.

Massie became a “RINO” the moment the Republican Party made the decision to remove two former principles from its national platform: fiscal responsibility and repealing ObamaCare.

How does ‘more Israel’ fit in that list?

Massie is the same category of politician as Louisiana Cassidy. They forget what party ticket they ran on.

Since when did the Republican Party give up on ending Obamacare? When MCCain was doing what Massie is now and cast the vote that saved it? We killed a lot of subsidies. It’s sunsetting now.

Fiscal responsibility? So, we just let the Democrats spend all the money and buy all the votes. You have to get rid of all the RINOs and dominate the Democrats before you have a hope of getting spending under control. Get the cart in front of the horse and you get neither.

Why is it people always think their representative is not the problem? Massie is not a team player and needs to go. I just hope there are enough republican voters left with enough brains left to know Massie is really a democrat.

If the bearded one loses this race, JD might want to be visiting his barber for shave.

I don’t have a handle on Kentucky nor its neighbor Ohio.

Story goes that the hillbilly Vance spent time in ol’ Kentucky.

But its odd that Vance was a Never Trumper before he wasn’t and Massie was a Trumpist for before he wasn’t.

Must be something about that Blue Moon over Kentucky that lends to such fickleness.

1. The Republican Party will never end ObamaCare. It is firmly entrenched as an entitlement program.

2. The “subsidies” you describe were not part of the original ACA. They are COVID-era subsidies. If they didn’t have a sunset provision written into the law, they’d still be there — even with the GOP in control of Congress.

3. The GOP removed all language related to a balanced budget from its platform. It has spent money like never before. You can’t possibly keep a straight face while pretending that the GOP is the party of fiscal responsibility.

Ah, now CNN is continuing to fawn over Massie like the rest of the leftist media - they were doing this the whole time, really going into overdrive after the latest polls were released.

Lone Republican becomes only lawmaker to vote against crackdown on human organ trafficking (Massie)

A bill aimed at cracking down on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its practice of forced organ harvesting passed with overwhelming support on Wednesday – though one House lawmaker voted against it.

Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., was the lone Republican to oppose the Stop Forced Organ Harvesting Act, which passed 406-1.

“It’s just another example of us trying to stick our nose in another country’s business and write their laws,” Massie told Fox News Digital after the vote. “And at the end of the day, they’re gonna do what they’re gonna do, and it’s just sort of a virtue signal over here.”

...

But his pushback is also notable now given his status as an open critic of Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and at times, of President Donald Trump.

The bill was introduced by Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., and would authorize the Secretary of State to deny U.S. passports and visitor visas to people involved in organ trafficking circles.

It would also call for sanctions on entities and individuals found to have participated in the gruesome illicit industry.

‘Mofo...in the White House’: Jasmine Crockett attacks Trump, praises Massie in anti-Iran strike rant
‘There’s only one Republican that I know I can count on for sure doing the right thing,’ Rep Crockett says in a new video

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, launched another tirade against President Donald Trump over the weekend, while offering rare praise for one of her House GOP colleagues who is currently at odds with the commander in chief.

The Democratic firebrand took to Instagram Live late Saturday to criticize Trump’s strikes on Iran, while giving a “shout out” to Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., over his bipartisan resolution to rein in the president’s ability to conduct such operations.

“So long story short, for those of you that are unaware, the mofo that resides in the White House has unilaterally, in my estimation, declared war,” Crockett said in the video.

Massie bucks GOP leadership again on Adam Schiff censure vote, draws conservative ire

Conservatives are conveying anger with northern Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie over his vote to oppose a resolution censuring California Rep. Adam Schiff, a favorite boogeyman of Republicans. Massie joined 19 other House Republicans in defecting from party leadership from condemning Schiff for championing the investigatory onslaught against former President Donald Trump. Combined with unanimous Democratic opposition, the measure failed, surprising even Schiff. The libertarian-leaning Massie claimed the resolution was unconstitutional for a clause that instructed Schiff should be fined $16 million if the House Ethics Committee found he “lied, made representations and abused sensitive information.” “Allowing a majority of Congress to take $16 million (92 years of pay) from any member of Congress is shortsighted,” Massie tweeted again of the Wednesday evening vote. “Can we not imagine a time when this precedent would be used against conservatives? Fortunately it failed.” Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, a Florida freshman, said Massie was “making misrepresentations about the bill” she authored. A band of pro-Trump political figures went even further, casting doubts about Massie’s reasoning and calling for his defeat. Massie has endorsed Trump rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. “Not only is he being duplicitous, partisan and moronic about his choice – he’s straight up lying about the Constitution to achieve his political end goals. Sick,” wrote Raheem Kassam, a British political activist and editor in chief of The National Pulse.

We need Ed Gallrein in the Senate. When votes are tight, we don’t need an independent like Massie whose ego makes him want to stand out from the crowd. Democrats understand standing together to get what they want. Until we have a Senate of Republicans who fight for their point of view until the vote is called and then follow the party line, we’ll never win the positions that let the voting public see us as having views worth voting for.

Like me, Massie is more Trump than Trump and more MAGA than MAGA.....but not a strategic player.....sometimes you got to compromise and sell guns to Commies to kill Nazis.....then when he Nazi’s are whipped.....sell guns to Nazi’s to kill Commies.

At the very end then, real Republicans might be able to bayonet the survivors of both and get our Republic back.
