Rubio Locks In Lead for '28
Newsmax ^

Posted on 05/16/2026 7:02:34 AM PDT by DIRTYSECRET

Rubio is like the baseball team that scraps for every run and creates openings while Vance seems to be waiting for President Trump to hit a three-run homer to bring him in.

Rubio is clearly leading Trump among Latinos, winning converts for him in a way Vance is failing to do. He has used his position as secretary of state to polish his image. Rubio has a charisma edge while Vance seems to be a stolid follower in Trump's wake.

That should actually worry you. I won’t bother telling you why.

Not at all. We'd be lucky to have Rubio in the White House after 2028.

Honestly, I'd getting the feeling that putting any Republican in the White House next election is going to be a pretty tall order and our only chance will be if the Democrats run a completely insane person (and Democrats being Democrats, they just might).

How do you all feel about Puerto Rican statehood and more Democrat senators??
That’s what you get with Rubio.

Harris also suggested considering “statehood for Puerto Rico and DC,”

I said it earlier this week.

The Secretary of State portfolio is way bigger, more important and more operationally involved in an Administration that is the role of the Vice President.

Those in those positions become viewed publicly by their performance in the jobs they have. Rubio’s job is much more observably much more crucial and he is handling it very well. Vance’s actual job and actual work is less significant, which leaves viewers less impressed with him.

Vance has to be banking on all the non-assigned time he has to go out and make speeches - which Rubio has little time for - and which Vance is hoping will translate into support in 2028.

My guess is though that most primary voters will remember job performance more than speeches.

H.G, Bush was not just a Vice President to Ronald Reagan. Before he ran for President himself, he had represented the 7th District from Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives, was the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, the Chairman of the Republican National Committee, the Chief of the U.S. Liaison Office to China, and Director of the Central Intelligence Agency - in that order. Vance got the Vice Presidency with no record of service like that. [Those things are acknowledged for the record. Not a vote pro or con about those appointments.]

If demonstrated accomplishment means anything, when it comes a Presidential Candidate, Rubio SHOULD BE be ahead of Vance.

I look for some shady GOP characters in favor of Vance to start coming up with some way to sling mud at Rubio and hope it is mud that negates his accomplishments.

While I have often criticized Secretary Rubio for not being an Art. 2, §1, Cl. 5 natural-born Citizen when it came to his presidential aspirations, as his parents were not naturalized U.S. citizens at the time of his birth in Miami, Florida. And while I have often criticized the decision in Wong Kim Art, I have learned that both of Marco’s parents were, in fact, green-card permanent residents at the time of his birth.

Very good. I do believe Monroe was Jeffersons secretary of state so there’s a history. As for Vance’s accomplishments that’s even more reason to put him on the court.

DeSantis would get ahead of the curve by forcing independence on them. Flying those illegals to Martha’s Vineyard won me over as he doesn’t mess around.

I don’t think Vance can win the general election. Of course it depends on who the Dems nominate but if they put forth Shapiro, for example, I think Vance would lose. If they put forth Harris, Vance would win. Whitmer? I don’t know. It could be close.

Rubio.. he’s always been for Puerto Rican statehood. His right hand man says he still is.

I was working in Colorado for a short term assignment for HP back when she was made CEO.
Came across the PA system.
Nearly every engineer said “What are you nuts?”
Carly was hated inside HP even before she decided to fire them all and hire back Indians

I’d hate to not see DeSantis in the WH. He’s got the executive experience and can deal with issues long before they become a problem.

DeSantis would be a great choice for Supreme Court Justice if he decides not to run in '28.

He’d be underemployed just like Marco as vp.
On paper DeSantis is the most qualified with the biggest track record of success hands down. Charisma-wise he needs work but if he can put down a wordsmith like governor hair gel I’m not worried at all.

I don’t think Vance can win the general election.

Vance will beat Harris. But they're not going to run Harris again (even if she's their most popular candidate).

So we need to back Rubio.
