Anchor Tony Dokoupil quickly halted Wednesday’s live broadcast of “CBS Evening News” after a cameraman suffered a medical emergency on set.
Dokoupil was in the middle of reporting on President Donald Trump’s upcoming meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping from Taiwan when he noticed the cameraman was in need of assistance. Trump’s summit with the Chinese leader comes amid ongoing tensions over trade and Taiwan as well as the U.S. war with Iran.
“And finally tonight from Taiwan as President Trump and [Chinese President Xi Jinping] prepare to meet, you will hear a lot about American decline and the rise of a powerful new China. The Chinese certainly … is he OK?” Dokoupil asked abruptly after a loud thump rang out off-screen.
The anchor’s attention was diverted to his collapsed team member as he scrambled to end the live broadcast.
“We’re gonna take a quick break. We have a medical emergency here. We’re calling a doctor,” Dokoupil said before the segment was cut.

Paramount statement afterwards:
"Tonight during the final segment of CBS Evening News, our cameraman on set suffered a medical emergency. Thankfully, he’s okay and recovering."
A rare bit of good news (aside from the medical emergency, obviously) is that the anchorman prioritized the health and safety of his colleague ahead of news reporting. Too many have “the show must go on” attitude.
Kudos to Dokoupil for this.
(In general, I despise the MSM, but I believe in giving credit where credit is due.)
Do they still have Jessica Fletcher under contract to come and investigate?
I loathe the newsreaders’ attitudes, scripts and ads for their news shows on that station. Obliviously left leaning, with no exceptions.
I forgot why CBS isn’t allowed in China. Parent Paramount Skydance threw CCP’s Tencent out of “Top Gun: Maverick,” as it was found Tencent was ordering the Japanese and Taiwanese flags off Maverick’s jacket. After their withdrawal, the two emblems were restored. Anyone remember that scandal?
