A Kentucky black history museum known for “shackling” patrons and posting “white guilt” videos is expected to receive a $1 million grant from the local city government.
The Roots 101 African-American Museum in Louisville is set to receive the large sum from the local government as a part of a recently proposed budget.
Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said the funds will be used to establish a permanent home for the black history museum.
“With this budget, we’re sharing more of our history, with all of its depth and complexity,” Greenberg said last month.
The museum aims to “to empower visitors to recognize and appreciate the resilience, creativity, and contributions of African Americans.”
But it also recently went viral for a well-meaning but bizarre practice of “shackling” – where visitors are put in a pair of shackles in an effort to teach about the effects of slavery.
Awkward video of the practice has been shared around on social media.
The routine shows Roots 101 CEO Lamont Collins stating “welcome to America” before dropping a pair of 400-year-old shackles onto the wrist of visitors.
Posts online shows Collins “shackling” several different people – including local Councilman Ken Herndon.
One video, where an older white lady was “shackled,” quickly went viral.
The woman becomes emotionally distraught immediately after having the shackles dropped onto her wrists – and then launches into a bizarre ramble about white guilt.

First, I wouldn’t go there, second a good way to get your arse kicked.
The guy who wrote ‘Amazing Grace’ spent years as a white slave in Africa, of an African.
a lot of White folks are slaves today, working to pay for the illegals and freeloaders with our taxes
If I’m dumb enough to go to a black history museum, I deserve everything that happens to me there. No shit that it’s going to be nothing but peak white guilt theater.
Black history my arse. The only black history is how much of the white taxpayers’ money they spend every year while playing kids games and entertaining whitey like a bunch of clowns.
Any white people who go there should be shackled
Should be something like, "The Museum of Slavery", etc.
And I want my blood money for the lives of 4 of my family who died in the fight to free the slaves from their democrat masters.
Kill all da white people
But visit my museum first
The lingering legacy of slavery from 260 years ago is nothing more than an excuse to keep blacks stirred up. Make them hate white people, but continue to vote for their former slavers. Oh yeah….the “party flip”.
The only slaves these days are the top 40% of income earners who are paying for the bottom 20% of no income earners.
The whole topic is bizarre. I don’t represent all white people nor does any black person represent all black people.
I am not responsible for what random other white people did throughout history, not to black people, native Americans etc.
If being an American means you benefit from Southern plantations working slaves, every black American benefits to the same extent as every non-black American. The whole brouhaha is wooly thinking and should have been summarily shut down. Guilt looking for a focus and virtue signaling have created a monster to the detriment of all Americans but especially to black Americans.
It seems to me that the so-called “museum” could have criminal complaints lodged against it for holding people against their will. Unreasonable seizure?
We should have picked our own cotton.
So the taxpayers will be paying for this crap and propaganda? I hope they will tell the story that slaves were captured by OTHER BLACKS in Africa!!
They didn’t pick much cotton in Italy or Russia where my ancestors lived at that time. Even so there is no validity in assuming the guilt or praise for other people’s historic actions. The whole concept is anti American where we cherish individual freedom & individual responsibility.
There are many things that are legal or were legal in different times that I consider abhorrent, not the least of which is abortion. I don’t see that pillorying the descendants of women who had abortions is right or just either.
The only museum I would visit is the Louisville Slugger Museum at the factory where they make the MLB bats.
