Generation Z is easily the most self-absorbed, egocentric generation in history. Their hubris will have consequences for its members, society and the future of humanity.
A Barna Survey on Gen Z attitudes toward marriage and children signals looming disaster.
Overall, the survey by America's foremost Christian pollster shows that Gen Z is largely disconnected from reality. Among 14- to 29-year-olds, support for socialism has increased 17 percentage points since the last time the survey was taken, from 22% to 39%. Why not? The signs of its success are all around us. What do you do when you get caught between Pyongyang and New York City?

It's a safety net. We know that we can depend on the government for Social Security. 40% of Americans depend on Social Security for at least 50% of their income.
Without Social Security, we'll depend on our families, therefore we'll need to have children.
This is why the fertility rate has declined everywhere including the West, East Asia and even the Gulf States in the Middle East.
I didn’t say that Social Security wasn’t a factor, I said that it’s not the sole or even most important factor. Women who want an education and careers aren’t going to give it all up and start having kids in their teens even if you did away with Social Security, and the welfare state, nor do people need to breed their own farm hands these days, welfare state or no welfare state.
Go to USA, Japan, South Korea or even Iran, UAE, Qatar.
They are all below replacement rate.
Different societal norms, religions, etc.
But they all have welfare states.
And all of the above countries have a much lower child mortality rate than decades ago, more women pursuing education and careers (even in some of the more prosperous Muslim countries), and a workforce that no longer relies on using children as helpers/apprentices.
You pointed out women in universities and careers. Even Islamic counties in the Gulf are doing that.
Hmm.
While most advanced nations have some type of social security/welfare state, they differ in their generosity. The question is, how strongly are birthrates correlated with the size/scope of the welfare state. Japan's welfare state is far lesser than that of Scandinavian countries, but if anything Japan has a lower birth rate.
Similarly, we can look at the fraction of women who get college degrees or become part of the skilled/professional work force to see how strongly that correlates negatively with birth rate. I'm sure the data is out there somewhere and that someone has already done the regression analyses!
Combining lower sperm counts with lower testosterone count is disturbing.
It’s the most pressing problem on earth I think. It’s a mystery. it doesn’t seem like any of the governments of the Earth are interested in solving it either.
“it used to be men wouldn’t even be allowed to marry until they had some means to provide for a wife and children..”
That’s when woman were expected to “marry well”. It was a good thing. Modern mores flipped that to call them gold diggers.
And that was an era when men had the decency to be humiliated if his wife worked outside the home. It was a sign that he was a loser.
Then feminism came along and everything turned upside down.
One small issue could be that they’re pumping chicken full of female hormones to make the breasts larger. Allegedly, it messes with testosterone and makes boys less manly.
My sister-in-law always has refused to feed her three sons “store bought” chicken for that reason.
yes, and then in our water system, we recycle our water, but who knows if we’re filtering out all of the prescription medications, birth control pills and so forth. Then of course they put boys on soy milk. It could be one reason or several at once. But then again you never hear about anybody studying it. studying the problem.
Recognizing this tendency in a generation isnt a new idea. One written specifically about them is A Generation of Sociopaths.
