He might be getting just too friendly in the skies.
The CEO of United Airlines was caught flying first class with rival American Airlines, his old employer who he has repeatedly taken jabs at and even pitched a merger to after they let him go a decade ago.
Scott Kirby, 58, was seen on an American Airlines flight from the San Francisco International Airport on Friday, with flight attendant Kristine Tiley snapping a photo with her former boss.
“LOOK WHO I HAD IN my first class today from sfo. What a great guy,” Tiley wrote on Facebook. “Just as nice as he was back in the day He misses us lol. And tells everyone Hi.”
The post whipped social media up into a frenzy as many were confused as to why the chief of United Airlines would fly with American rather than with his own company.
Kirby still enjoys lifetime travel benefits with American Airlines after serving three years as president of the company from 2013 to 2016.
In his final year, American Airlines let Kirby go, paving the way for his rival, Robert Isom, to move up to CEO of the company, with the two men becoming heated adversaries in the industry.

Stewardess not very pretty.
Few are pretty or slim anymore. Most are obese and rude. DEI’s
To his credit, he was a gregarious passenger who made her feel at ease.
He “ identified” as an American CEO. Was he dressed as a man or a woman?
EC
Looks like the average stewardess thses days:
Overweight, overage, and fugly
I fly AA seveal times a year and they get worse all the time.
Lucky to have flown back when the ideal of a stewardess was an attractive woman.
99.99% chance the choice was about the flight schedule not the airline. Good chance if Delta had a flight more conducive to his schedule he might have been on a Delta flight.
“News” is making more of the matter than it really is. But it is just such stupid “gotcha” “news” so many millions love.
You have to get on the international flights.
That, or just fly locally around Europe.
Why does it makes news?
Of course, people use competitor’s services when it fits them.
Trump does not sleep in Trump properties or plays golf on his courses only! And so are all other CEO’s.
This was likely a fitting connection.
Why not?
Lovebirds.
“about the flight schedule not the airline”
Agreed. But what CEO of a huge company flies on a commercial flight? Were all of their corporate jets in the shop for repair?
“Agreed. But what CEO of a huge company flies on a commercial flight?”
Hats off to him. If I were an airline CEO I would certainly fly occasionally on commercial flights of my airline as well as my competitors.
"Mr. Kirby, we are prepared to offer you all the free first class flights you care to take, PLUS..."
Opposition research on a competitor’s flight. Quality control on your own carrier’s flight.
All executive level employees should periodically use competitor products.
Airline company CEOs do not fly on private flights 100% of the time. They are known to fly commercial on infrequent occasions, and its usually a scheduling thing, but then on those occasions it is usually their own airline, unless timing demands otherwise.
One reason I used to really like Singapore Airlines. They discriminated...in a good way.
Emirates was a really close 2nd.
Yes, I thought an inspection of his main competitor might be a reason, too.
My response to the heifers? Wale, cow are you?
