Ireland has the highest household electricity prices in the European Union, latest figures from Eurostat show.
According to the figures from the EU’s statistical agency — which cover the second half of last year — electricity in Ireland cost 40.42 cent per kilowatt-hour (including VAT and levies), which was nearly 40% above the EU average of 28.96 cent.
As a result, the average household in Ireland is paying around €480 a year more for its electricity compared to the EU average.
The figures show Irish electricity prices jumped by 32.7% between July and December 2025, when compared with the same period in 2024.
After Ireland, Germany (38.69 cent per kilowatt-hour) and Belgium (34.99 cent per kilowatt-hour) had the next highest prices.
Hungary had the cheapest electricity prices in the EU (10.82 cent per kilowatt-hour). …

Actually I remember their prices zooming up once the Neocon War against Russia started, in 2022, and maybe before then even. Most of it was due to their ‘green’ policies, including Germany blowing up its 12 nuclear plants, France’s policy of letting their 50 or so nuke plants ‘wither on the vine’ (since reversed) with the intent of replacing their reliable energy with totally unreliable energy, the UK shutting down its last coal plant, etc.
All of that pre-dates Trump 2.0 and I suspect they don’t want their new masters from the Middle East and Africa having a functional economy when they take over in a decade or so.
By the way, for people out there who don’t travel the world on a regular basis - when they say ‘cent’, they’re talking “Euro Cent”, which is about 20% higher than our one penny. So “40 cent” in US terms is nearly 50 US Cents per kwh, which is 3 times the average price in most of the US (other than deep blue states). They’re hosed.
Prices went up in general during the Biden usurpation anyhow, who were working with the EUSSR.

One large nuclear power plant would be enough to take care of the electricity needs of the whole island.

Ireland’s EU-puppet government sent in the military to attempt to squash protests whose demand was to get rid of the carbon tax, speaking of that.
They need to reduce their population to a couple of hundred thousand and learn to burn peat to heat their homes and cook their food.
