Why is India turning to crocodiles and snakes to ‘fence’ Bangladesh border?
Aljazeera ^ | 30 Apr 2026 | Yashraj Sharma

India wants to fence the border with Bangladesh badly – even if it takes venomous snakes or crocodiles. Analysts and activists have expressed alarm at the prospect of dangerous animals such as crocodiles being used to deter refugees and migrants.

“This would be hilarious if it weren’t sinister and dangerous,” said Angshuman Choudhury, a researcher with a focus on northeastern and eastern Indian border states. “It’s absurd, right?”

For the same reason I’ve used piles of mesquite to block unauthorized vehicle access to my ranch.

You use what is at hand.

Finally, a good idea from India that we should be adopting on the Rio Grande. And maybe the St. Lawrence if we could get crocs and snakes to withstand the cold.

I wouldn’t mind the government trenching through my field to install a border wall, but stocking the border properties with cobras and crocodiles?

Not a good idea. Lots of river tourism would be cut off.

Great idea. The nearby Sundarbans is the Everglades of India with all kinds of dangerous creatures. Have them patrol the border and more effectively.

““once you release venomous snakes and crocodiles, they won’t be able to differentiate if it’s a Bangladeshi or Indian”

Yes. But how many Indian Hindus are trying to cross into Bangladesh for a better life?

Not well I'm afraid, The Mexicans would turn them into belts and boots in short order, then make BBQ taquitos with the meat.

Piranha fish will thrive in Rio Grande. More effective and more active than crocs who need to eat only once a month.

Crocs survive dry seasons in Africa quite well when rivers are dry.

Makes sense and would probably be effective and cheap....but why would anyone want to move to India when the Indians themselves are using every trick in the book to move to America?

Piranha fish will thrive in Rio Grande.

Which might be nice if they were an actual deterrent. But the image of piranha as vicious was created over a century ago in a staged spectacle where a section of the Amazon was netted off, leaving piranha starving. Then they dumped a cow carcass into the water in front of Teddy Roosevelt's journalist entourage on one of his tours. The myth has been with us ever since. Locals swim in such waters regularly, and are more concerned with freshwater stingrays than the piranhas.

Snorkeling in Ice: Alligators can survive frozen water by creating holes in the ice, keeping only their snouts above the surface to breathe while their body remains submerged in slightly warmer water below.

My guess is ZERO.

I worked with a handful of Indian engineers and never heard a nice word for muzzies.

This is their people:
Akshardham Temple Attack (2002): On September 24, 2002,2, two armed terrorists attacked the BAPS Akshardham complex in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, resulting in the deaths of 33 people and injuring over 80 others.

It took me a few days to recover.

As a joke, I painted a couple of the blue practice claymore mines green and “hid” them badly, bolting them to either side of the ranch gate that goes to the house under the “no solicitation no tresspassing” sign. The part that says “Front towards enemy” is visible.

I get landmen and other variety of conmen showing up unsolicited (”you didn’t respond to our letter offering you [insert something I don’t want]”).

It’s right under the call pad. Many have turned right around. I’ve heard a couple say “f—k that’s a claymore.”
