I have some familiarity with South Africa thanks to having once dated a South African woman and having visited a couple of times (1980s and 2018). Of course apartheid was very bad but majority rule has been in place for 30+ years.

The differences I saw between my recent visit and my visit 40 years ago was breathtaking...absolutely incredible. majority rule has caused a fully developed nation to collapse into a typical African country (I've seen several "typical" African countries as well as SA).

The problem was that they didn't transition to majority rule after apartheid. They should have split up the country into something like Capetown, Durban, Pretoria/Johannesburg.

By your own admission, it was far better than the current alternative. I don't judge good or bad based on an imaged alternative of some idealized world, I base it on real choices that are on the table - i.e. Apartheid vs. Xhosa tribal rule. By that standard, Apartheid rule was a net good.

The Xhosa are a Bantu people, and thus no more “native” to South Africa than white Afrikaners. The true natives of SA are !Kung Bushmen who were displaced by both Bantus and later by Afrikaners. So Xhosa “nativism” and “xenophobia” (which incidentally applies to Zulus as well) is no morally different from Apartheid. It’s all about whose ox is being gored.

I agree. IMO it's absolutely reasonable for blacks not wanting to be ruled by whites...and for whites not wanting to be ruled by African blacks.

I believe that the country should have been split into at least two countries...one for whites and at least one for blacks. All would have had fertile farmland...minerals...at least one major city.

Yes,it surely seemed better for whites 40 years ago than it is today. But I can’t be 100% certain about blacks. For example: the murder rate in SA today is just about the highest in the world. So the question is...what was the murder rate for blacks back then vs today? My guess is that it’s worse today. also...standard of living (housing,nutrition,etc) for blacks today vs 40 years ago. My guess is that its worse today...but I can’t be sure.

Yes,I've heard that. As bad as SA is today it's far better than Mozambique,Zimbabwe,etc.

True story: about 10 years ago we went to Kenya to visit national parks. Our guide was "James" and he was great. He told us he was a Christian...which surprised me. On one of our long drives (it's a big country) I got to talk to him at length. At one point he got onto the subject of Somalis (Kenya and Somalia share a border). He went on to tell me how huge a problem illegal Somalis were in Kenya. They commit every imaginable type of crime...including terrorism. He absolutely hated them!

That's because SA blacks haven't had as much time to destroy the infrastructure and institutions that Europeans created as their counterparts in places like Zimbabwe.
