This video has gone viral in the last day on Instagram, X, and TikTok.
Reading ability (proficiency and literacy skills) among youth has declined in recent years, especially in the US, with scores hitting historic lows on national assessments. 👀📚 pic.twitter.com/CCMpWdx2Ls— Rain Drops Media (@Raindropsmedia1) April 29, 2026
Like a ghostly silhouette, this video demonstrates the gauche condition of America's hollow education system and its extraordinary failure to teach children to read.
Here's Google Gemini reminding us that "extraordinary" is an intermediate level word. It's not a five-dollar word. It's just a normal part of language.
"She wore a silhouette of clothes that were extraordinary but somewhat gauche" means "She wore an awkward outfit that made a statement."
This video is from West Preparatory Academy in Las Vegas. Apparently, the college prep school is graduating students who cannot read.
Sure, the sentence has an odd structure. The fact that it wasn't eloquent prose does not change one's ability to read the parts of the whole, however!
Anyway, this is America after a century or so of "progressive" leadership in schools.

If the future of a nation lies in the hands of its children...
we are so screwed.
“Silhouette” is a very familiar word that remains a bit of a spelling challenge for a few. It’s obviously French in origin.
I am surprised this word has not been ‘Americanized’ by now, in some phonetic spelling variation.
Can't read, can't write, can't do basic math, doesn't know what a check book is, history is what ever facebook says....
Their only skill is this!
If 60 is the new 40 then 35 must be the new 15.
15 will get you 20...................
‘Educators’ who taught and passed these kids should be fired.
Reading is white supremacy.
What is a silhouette of clothes? I was so thrown by that phrasing that I was trying other words.
Silhouette and gauche are French. I think I learned silhoyette in fourth grade; gauxhe in high achool.
Darn my phone has small print.
“She wore a silhouette of clothes that were extraordinary but somewhat gauche” means “She wore an awkward outfit that made a statement.”
This is clearly a racis’ exercise....
Thanks for asking. I did not know either.
That seems a specialized use of a specialized word for prep school.
Every time I am feeling a bit uninspired, I read one of my Churchill books again.
