A snake crawled into the German tourist's pants and bit him, according to police.
WASHINGTON — A German tourist on vacation in Egypt died this month after he was bitten during a snake-charming show, according to German police.
Bavarian Police said this week that a family of three from the Unterallgäu region of Germany went to the snake-charming show in early April in the Hurghada resort area of Egypt, along the Red Sea coast. The show was entertainment provided by the hotel complex, police said.
Two snakes that police said were "presumably" cobras were used in the performance and placed around the necks of audience members. One of the snakes crawled into the pants of the 57-year-old German tourist and bit his leg.
The man, who was not named in the release, "exhibited clear symptoms of poisoning and required resuscitation," police said in a news release. "The 57-year-old man was taken to a local hospital, where he later died."
The incident is under investigation by Germany's Memmingen Criminal Police Inspectorate, and toxicology results are pending, according to the release.
About 5.4 million people worldwide are bitten by snakes each year, and up to 137,880 people die from those bites, according to the World Health Organization.
In California, three people have died from snake bites this year. A 78-year-old woman died weeks after she suffered three snake bites while walking in the Redwood Valley on April 8, according to ABC News. A 25-year-old man died from a rattlesnake bite while mountain biking in Irvine in February. And in March, a 46-year-old woman died after she was bitten by a rattlesnake while hiking at Wildwood Regional Park.
Are you happy to see me or is that a snake in your pants?...........

You have to be pretty stupid to let someone wrap one of the world’s most deadly snakes around your neck.
I was going to make a snarky comment, but this poor guy was just sitting in the audience, a totally innocent victim. I feel bad for his family and for him. RIP brother.
Probably works well against chihuahuas and Pekinese too.
Avoid taking vacations in Muslim countries. Bad things happen there.
A few years back, my wife and I were driving north on Route 1 in Massachusetts, and we had the windows down and moon roof open. It was a nice, warm, sunny day.
A hornet flew in the window and landed right between my legs.
I was wearing baggy cargo shorts.
As I looked down at the hornet, it was crawling to and fro right between my bare legs, when it did a 90 degree turn and disappeared into my shorts!
I began whacking at my crotch with one hand while I drove with the other, and my wife was looking at me as if I were possessed by a demon, she had no idea what was going on.
I pulled to the side, and because I am fairly conscientious about knowing what the traffic around me is while driving (I scan my mirrors several times a minute out of habit) there were no other cars on the road with me, so I knew there were no cars close to me!
That damn hornet stung me three times on my inner thigh before I managed to kill the infernal thing!
How this guy let a poisonous snake get up his pants is beyond me!
Guy was probably inebriated.
I wonder how many travelers get offed trying “new experiences” in other countries
Snake is bad.
Bitten is really bad.
Bitten by snake in the pants is the worst.
I too feel sad about the death but when I saw your use of the word “snarky”...I at first confused it with “snake-key”...and laughed. Woe is me!
I’m now having to think about Moses’ Brass rod with the snake that was raised up so that snake bit Hebrews could look upon it and live, my doing so as penance.
Groucho was right to shoot that elephant in his pajamas
I live in the country side of central Texas. Rattlesnakes are on my land. It would be impossible to clear my acres of them. I leave them alone unless near my house where they pose a danger to my family and pets. I reluctantly kill them and will continue to do so. My dog tells me when they are near. I then kill them, 12 gauge shotgun with #6 shot. The snake feels no pain. He or she is instantly obliterated at the head. I have no problem with killing vermin. It is just house cleaning.
Oddly I no longer shoot deer and game on my land. I just got tired of killing. I have absolutely no problems with ethical hunters. One shoots game on my land and we share the venison and turkey. It is delicious.
The turkey is not your store bought turkey. It has a gamey taste. It is excellent for stews and chilies and oddly would be great as a gumbo. You should try it.
Forgot to add we process the venison ourselves. We make the best parts into steaks, and stew meat. The rest is processed into ground meat. We bought a grinder years ago. It has processed hundreds of pounds of venison. We buy fat to add to the ground venison least it be too dry, we add 10% by weight. I and my friend often enjoy the best hamburgers that can be made on his back porch grill.
Which leg did it bite?
