Blame it on the car. That's what a Florida woman tried to do recently after deputies pulled her over for allegedly driving 123 mph on a highway.
While the driver was going well over the posted speed limit of 50 mph, she was quick to offer an excuse to deputies in body camera footage released by the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
"Honestly, it's just because he has a Supra, and then I thought it was all right, OK to go fast and everything," the woman told police, referring to the red Toyota sports car she had been driving. The car apparently belonged to the male passenger who had been along for the ride.
Jail records show authorities arrested Siria Lopez, a 25-year-old from Bonita Springs, on suspicion of speeding and a DUI around 1 a.m. Thursday, April 9. Lopez posted $3,500 in bond money to the Lee County Sheriff's Office and was released from the county jail later that day. (snip)
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, this was not the first time that specific red Supra was used to reach such high speeds. In December 2024, the male passenger, whom Lopez said in the body camera footage owned the car, was allegedly cited for going 109 mph on the same road and in the same car.
"Last time I saw you, you were doing 110, so I knew you were doing 125," the officer remarked as he handcuffed Lopez.
Lopez was also cited for careless, aggressive driving, modified exhaust and improper turn signal.
With a population of about 50,000, Bonita Springs is near Cape Cod and Fort Myers.

Hey, keep your 123 mile an hour exploits on the race track not in public roads. Idiot.
“Lopez was also cited for careless, aggressive driving, modified exhaust and improper turn signal.”
Modified exhaust and improper turn signal — well, that’s just beyond the pale! Book her, Dano!
My Maserati does 185.
Supra is short for Supracalifragilisticexpialidocious.
If she can drive 123 drunk, how fast can she drive sober?
In any event, throw the book at her. “Improper turn signal”? Lock her away.
I lost my license, now I don’t drive.
I bet he was driving and made her switch seats. She’s that bright.
I try to keep my bmw under 150 cause the clutch starts slipping and it smells bad.
“My Maserati does 185...”
They took my license.
Now I don’t drive.
:)
If she were actually intoxicated, I would be impressed that she handled the car as well as she did.
I got tagged doing 92 in an 8 in Montana. (I didn’t tell the Trooper I’d been doing 110 for the last several hours.
When the Judge asked if I was guilty or innocent I said “Well, I was going 92 mph but your honor, you people have some awesome roads out there.
She laughed heartily. I had to pay the ticket but no points. That’s all I wanted.
$7 to drive 110 mph for a few hours is a cheap price to pay.
$70
My old 87 Supra Turbo would top out at 149 mph on the speedometer.
At that speed one wrong twitch of the steering wheel and it would all be over.
It’s too bad that all the newer models are just so ugly..and the latest a BMW
LOL. She should have hired you for her attorney.
100%!
