Real New Yorkers furious over ‘microlooting’ writer’s shoplifting at local Whole Foods: ‘She is rich…I am not’

They’re stealing from the rich to give to … themselves.

A lefty New Yorker writer who lives in a $2.5 million Brooklyn brownstone has elicited fury from real hardworking New Yorkers after she claimed it was just fine to shoplift on a podcast praising “microlooting” — a trendy new term for stealing from big companies such as Whole Foods.

On the podcast, opinion culture editor Nadja Spiegelman describes “microlooting” as a way of sticking it to billionaire Bezos.

“What I’m seeing on TikTok and social media is people saying that they’re stealing from Whole Foods not just for the thrill of it, but out of a feeling of anger and moral justification. Because the rich don’t play by the rules, so why should I? And Jeff Bezos has too much money — he’s a billionaire — so why should I have to pay for organic avocados?,” she said, parroting the views of microlooters.

On the New York Times opinion podcast, New Yorker writer Jia Tolentino describes the “several” times she swiped items such as lemons from Whole Foods — adding that she “didn’t feel bad” because it’s a big corporation.

“She is rich … and I am not. We don’t live on the same planet at all,” said Andrea Jones, 49, who lives in Gompers Houses public housing, when told about Tolentino and the podcast.

“Because of her, they’ll raise the price and I have to pay more. She is hurting me, she is not helping me,” she said.

Jones, who uses food stamps, called the claims out of touch — saying she’d likely be tossed in jail for the same crime.

If theft were punishable by the death penalty, people wouldn’t steal.

Executive Summary -
Lefty New Yorker lives in a $2.5 million Brooklyn brownstone. She steals a little something when she shops Whole Foods. She pays for rest. (I assume)
Why? Because Bezos is worth billions and can afford it.

How do we distinguish “real” New Yorkers from unreal New Yorkers in this?

“I see you have something. Give it to me.”

The government has been living by that rule for a very long time.
Now poor people are living by that rules as well.

It’s not good. Maybe every layer of society should pull back and say “Your stuff is your stuff. I won’t touch it.”

Let’s start with the government, and see if the poor people follow.

When you see women bragging about stealing and think it’s ok, we are seeing the collapse of society in real time.

Put her in stocks outside Whole Foods. People can throw rotten fruits and eggs at her. Piss on her shoes if they are stoned on THC. Which misguided Trump just bumped up to a little bit more legal, on the Federale level.

…public housing was designed specifically for this outlook. That and votes.

The Framers wrote of property and it’s SACRED nature in the Federalist Papers MORE THAN 17 TIMES as often as the big THREE rights of the First Amendment COMBINED!

Maybe folks should start breaking into Spiegelman‘s mansion to micro-burglarize.

You know, just to steal some small stuff. iPhones, TV sets, cheaper jewelry, etc.

She can easily afford the loss.

Another 65-year-old resident of the housing project called the sanctimonious five-fingered discount “bulls–t.”

Anti-capitalist New Yorker writer brags she stole from Whole Foods ‘on several occasions’ in NYT podcast
“What she’s saying doesn’t make sense. [Whole Foods owner] Mr. [Jeff] Bezos will just increase the prices,” said the resident, who goes by Mr. Carter and is on a fixed income. “She is not doing us a favor. She is in a movement of her own — to justify what she’s doing.”

Jenny Garcia, 35, a low-income single mom of three, added: “This is not how you help us.”

There is some common sense left, that should encourage us. I sometimes wonder if there is enough good left to overcome the stupid. We are being tested, all of us need to use our voice.

If one of those thieves is in jail, then they won’t be living on exactly the same planet as others, will they? I would say this as it should be, assuming the thieves are being caught.

I think prison has a role to play — but I would like prison sentences to be very rare. I don't think prison is terribly effective.

I like various forms of corporal punishment. People should experience extreme psychological trauma which really burns the key idea into their brain: “I should not have done what I did.”

I also like capital punishment. There are a great many people whose behavior is an indication that they ought to be permanently removed from society.

There is very little about our current justice system that I like.

Marijuana is legal in Michigan. How did you possibly work Trump into your post? Oh, I see it: piss on someone’s shoes while in stocks for stealing, and that brings in Trump. Do you work negatives about Trump in all your postings?

When you steal from a retail outlet that is publicly owned, you are stealing from teachers’ pension funds.
