President Donald Trump announced a U.S. blockade on the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday.
Trump made the announcement in a post on his Truth Social account, blaming the failure to reach a deal with Iran during talks in Pakistan this weekend.
"So, there you have it, the meeting went well, most points were agreed to, but the only point that really mattered, NUCLEAR, was not. Effective immediately, the United States Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz," Trump wrote.
"At some point, we will reach an 'ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO IN, ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO OUT' basis, but Iran has not allowed that to happen by merely saying, 'There may be a mine out there somewhere,' that nobody knows about but them. THIS IS WORLD EXTORTION, and Leaders of Countries, especially the United States of America, will never be extorted," Trump continued.
"I have also instructed our Navy to seek and interdict every vessel in International Waters that has paid a toll to Iran. No one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas. We will also begin destroying the mines the Iranians laid in the Straits. "The Blockade will begin shortly. Other Countries will be involved with this Blockade. Iran will not be allowed to profit off this Illegal Act of EXTORTION. They want money and, more importantly, they want Nuclear. Additionally and, at an appropriate moment, we are fully 'LOCKED AND LOADED,' and our Military will finish up the little that is left of Iran!" he added.

This is starting to look like the end game for Iran. If the strait is blocked and the Pakistani-Saudi alliance takes shape, I can’t see what options are left to them.
Couldn’t they just block Iranian ports and Kharg? Not sure if those logistics are harder.
hmmm, i knew should’ve picked up some oil futures last friday.
you can almost ‘predict’ how the market will go especially with oil every time after Trump’s msg.
Appropriate moment is now as the most appropriate moment was at the very beginning.
This will likely get the EU, China, etc. off the sidelines to help secure the Strait.
I suspect part of the reason for the blockade is to make the Europeans feel some pain since they refused to put skin in the game.
Yes, I think so too.
The US has the leverage. Before, Iran thought they had the power to say no and yes to the strait. Iran can now say yes all they want and it’s still closed. We clear the strait, then we say yes. At the same time, eliminate any remaining threat to navigation.
You can’t reason or negotiate with rabid animals.

Will China allow a blockade?
Channeling Neville Chamberlain is no way to go through life.
The idiot is determined to kill the economy and smash the midterms. He’s going to sacrifice us all for Israel.
They’re already uprising in Ireland.
You want a “Truth”? Here’s a truth… I paid 96 dollars to fill my pickup yesterday. That was with the cheapest gasoline, not premium.
Ironically, Iran is blockading itself.
“paid 96 dollars to fill my pickup yesterday. That was with the cheapest gasoline, not premium.”
Awww...poor baby.
Your gas bill is more important than the safety of the world.
What an absolutely small minded selfish dipshit comment.
Good grief. SMH
Please explain why we, the mightiest power in the history of our planet, need outside help in clearing the Strait.
And if, as our President has said repeatedly, opening the Strait isn’t in our own economic interest, why bother with it at all?
