Earth's mysterious 'humming' vibration has surged for more than a week, prompting reports from some people who say the phenomenon is disrupting their sleep and causing ringing in their ears.
Known as the Schumann Resonance, this natural vibration is often described as the Earth's 'heartbeat,' a steady electromagnetic rhythm generated by lightning bouncing between the planet's surface and the ionosphere, which sits roughly 30 to 600 miles above the surface in the atmosphere.
Space weather monitoring app MeteoAgent reported an intense surge in Schumann Resonance readings starting on Monday, labeling them 'high' and potentially disruptive. However, experts cautioned that such measurements can fluctuate naturally.
The Earth's main frequency typically pulses around 7.83 cycles per second, measured in Hertz (Hz), with several higher-frequency bands also detected.
Some researchers and wellness advocates believe that these frequencies overlap with human brain wave patterns associated with sleep, relaxation and concentration.
Mainstream scientists have argued that research on their biological effects has been inconclusive. However, many people battling insomnia this week have already blamed the surging atmospheric disturbance for various ailments over the last four days.
'Feeling like gravity got thick. Ears ringing. Even my eyesight has been blurry. What’s up with the Schumann?' one person wrote on social media.
Anecdotal reports have frequently linked resonance spikes to people suddenly hearing ringing in the ears, feeling muscle tension, fatigue and brain fog, but medical experts have warned that these claims are not backed by strong clinical evidence.

I have heard stories about people grounding their beds, somehow, and reporting relief from insomnia. Sounded whacky, but in one case the guy swore by it.

We benefit all the time from discoveries and developments that have come from NSF and NIH funded research for many decades. It’s like any other kind of endeavor - stupid or crappy stuff creeps in sometimes, but that doesn’t negate the value of the institutions.

The Office of Naval Research and NIH largely funded my doctoral research in the late ‘70s. My advisor was Otto Sckmitt - which may mean something to those of us old farts with engineering or physics backgrounds.
The navy was trying to deploy an extremely-low-frequency communication system (Sanguine/Seafarer) for communication with submerged ballistic missile subs.
Lots of observational studies looking at ecosystems or modeling soil heating, etc. I think our lab was the only one looking at direct human perception with reproducible experiments. Whenever a test run or subject gave results different from chance, we dug down to look for a mechanism.
I have stories about our designs to screen out background noise and to generate the experimental fields. Northern States Power hated the glitches we induced in the grid. Several subjects’ ability to ‘sense’ the fields we traced to ear wax with ferrous contamination.

The Schumann resonance supposedly is impacted by increasing lighting strikes around the Earth. Earth changes will happen one day, arriving as “birth pains” as travail upon a woman and child about to be delivered, their heartbeats increasing to be born,

Your mention of ‘ear wax contamination’ reminded me of the story that Lucille Ball told of picking up enemy Morse code through her dental fillings. I don’t think it’s ever been determined whether the story could be true or not.
(There are even stories of people picking up radio transmission through embedded shrapnel.)
Gilligan once picked up radio stations through a dental filling. What more proof is needed. The Professor agrees.
