A maniac slashed three elderly people with a machete in an unprovoked attack and was fatally shot by cops at Grand Central Terminal Saturday morning — causing mayhem that sent commuters fleeing the iconic station, police and witnesses said.
An 85-year-old man and a 65-year-old man were slashed in their heads on the 4, 5, 6 subway platform at at 9:50 a.m., police said. A 70-year-old woman was also slashed, but it wasn’t clear where on her body, cops said.
Two NYPD detectives confronted the 44-year-old and told him to drop the machete.
He ignored their commands and was shot three times, according to police sources.
The victims were taken to local hospitals in stable condition, cops said.
The slasher was taken to Bellevue Hospital and was pronounced dead a short time later, cops said.
He wasn’t immediately identified but was known to the NYPD and had numerous prior arrests, including for menacing with a sharp object, police sources said.
The two officers, who were working overtime in the subway, were also taken to the hospital for treatment of tinnitus, cops said.

It's a good thing they have machete control laws so that no one could defend themselves with a firearm or a machete of their own.
“...multiple prior arrests...”
Daniel Penny has left the chat.
Either deranged illegal or deranged hobo..either way Mamdani will say that there was no need to send in the cops that he should not have been killed and all he needed was a hug and a blankie
Mamdani is saddened. Not for the victims, but for the criminal losing his life.
We are long overdue to remove unconstitional infringements on suppressors. They should be standard issue for law enforcement.
The same justification for banning smoking indoors, citing its effect on employees and other patrons, would be justification for suppressors for law enforcement in train cars.
No one deserves to have their eardrums assaulted, risking permanent hearing damage because city politicians released criminals back into the public, and the refused to issue suppressors to law enforcement.
Hmmmmm. Pretty sure machetes fall under the 2nd amendment also. Now in common use in the country. We had one last week in Reno at a JC penneys used to steal a pair of shoes and threaten the employees. Just sayin’...................
Mamdani is DEEPLY saddened. But he feels better since he ordered the cops be arrested.
Diversity is our strength.
How many “prior arrests”?
Ten? Twenty? 100?
The only good thing is, he won’t be arrested anymore. I hope the victims survive.
One of the pics at the link has the caption...
“The dead attacker’s identity is unknown.”
In the story itself it says...
“He wasn’t immediately identified but was known to the NYPD and had numerous prior arrests, including for menacing with a sharp object, police sources said.”
Your post would make a great tagline. Speaking truth.
What a screwed up country we have.
“Today we kill, tomorrow we vote.”
never had any machete attacks, and I never heard of them until the last few years. People used to use guns. That’s what happens when you don’t have a southern border I guess.
and once again, even though police were working the area- they were not able to prevent the maniac from slashing 3 people- had one of the victims had a gun however- perhaps no-one would have been slashed, or prevented more slashing of the other victims- Cops are great- and society needs them however, they are not able to prevent violent crimes when they are not near victims 100% of the time- a gun on a person’s body is there at all times and can be used quickly to defend a person- they don’;t have to wait minutes for a cop to show up to ‘save the day’ while a maniac is slashing away
Wait. Where are all the social workers? This could have all been easily taken care of with social workers.
The wardens don't care to protect the inmates. And they are inmates, whether they believe it or not.
Maybe it’s time to make ‘leather-necks’ a thing, again.
[[had numerous prior arrests, including for menacing with a sharp object,]]
But of course law enforcement ‘couldn’t do anything UNTIL he attacked someone- This has to change- He was a Known threat AND showed that he would act out violently if given the chance- and he DID! Could have been prevented IF we locked lunatics up instead of feeling sorry for them and keeping them out of insitutions
