The mayor of a North Carolina town says he’s not going anywhere despite town commissioners urging him to resign.

Chris Carney, the mayor of Mooresville, is in the spotlight over an alleged incident caught on surveillance video inside the town hall in 2024. The incident, according to an IT employee who reported it, involved a man believed to be Carney entering the town hall with a woman described as a town communications consultant. The IT employee said the footage later showed Carney walking through the building without pants.

The incident has since led to three lawsuits against the town, with one IT employee claiming he was terminated after being accused of leaking information. Another IT employee, who alleged in his lawsuit that Carney was “in a state of partial or complete undress” and arousal inside the town hall, says he was also forced out of his position when he refused to suppress electronic records.

A third lawsuit was filed against the town by an assistant police chief who was forced into early retirement after raising concerns about the same incident and a separate traffic stop involving the mayor.

...

Carney, however, says he plans to serve the remaining 19 months left in his term.

“You’ve got to remember, this was in 2024,” said Carney. “It’s been so long ago...

The Governor should have stepped in long ago to get this Mayor out. Most of his assistants have lost confidence in his judgement. The incident itself is bad and embarrassing, but his attempts to cover up or fire people for not lying in support shows a much greater crime. Very likely, some of these fired personell are going to be suing for wrongful termination.

Recent Controversies
In October 2024, Carney was involved in a highly publicized incident at Mooresville Town Hall, where surveillance footage allegedly showed him inside the building late at night without pants, accompanied by a female town employee. This incident has led to three ongoing lawsuits alleging retaliation against employees who reported the event, including former IT staff and a former assistant police chief. The Mooresville Board of Commissioners voted 4-2 in April 2026 to express no confidence in Carney and formally called for his resignation, citing concerns about ethical leadership and community trust. Carney has denied wrongdoing, attributing his actions to illness and personal pressures, and claims the resignation push is politically motivated.

The main question should be where did the pants go? I'd hate to think that some random citizen might have found them with nobody inside them.

Da Mayor

When you’re hot you’re hot When you’re not you’re not

Guilty !

Poor IT worker , seeing the mayor walking around sporting wood .

They don’t pay me enough was his thought and now they aren’t paying him at all . At least until the lawsuits are settled.

The mayor’s face reminds me of Otis Campbell, Mayberry’s town drunk.
