RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) — A Long Island architect accused in a string of long-unsolved slayings known as the Gilgo Beach killings is expected to plead guilty on Wednesday, closing a case that bedeviled investigators, agonized victims’ relatives and tantalized a true-crime obsessed public for years.

Rex Heuermann, 62, is charged with murdering seven women, many of them sex workers, over a 17-year span. A guilty plea would put him in prison for the rest of his life.

Notice how the MSM has adopted “sex workers” as a “non-judgmental” euphemism for prostitutes?

I wouldn’t say it was a long search. The cops mostly ignored it until they got a new commissioner.

Several errors just in the part of the article posted here.

Rex Heuermann to plead guilty in the Gilgo Beach killings, ending long search for a serial killer

The search ended in 2022 with his arrest.

Rex Heuermann, 62, is charged with murdering seven women, many of them sex workers, over a 17-year span.

The earlist case pinned on him is 2010 and he was arrested in 2022. 12 years. I think the evidence suggests that these killings happened in the 2010 time period and not after, so he was not on the running killing sex workers for 17 years.

I am pretty sure all of them were sex workers, some of the families were shocked to find out they were in the trade.

Word is, defendant Heuerman has been using crutches going to and fro in the courtroom lately. He’s doing this because he has foot pain and an infection. He has increased foot pain because he has gained ‘considerable’ weight while in prison.

I thought prison meals were notoriously skimpy.
What? Has it become an ‘All U Can Eat’ Buffet?
Is there no limit to the rations?
Not like the military, then.

The search ended when they caught him. I don’t think there was much question about whether he did it once he was found. The guilty plea does spare the families the pain of a trial though.

“A guilty plea would put him in prison for the rest of his life.”

What a shame. He should be executed post haste after a quick trial. This is a black mark on the DA for being too cowardly to go to trial for the death penalty.

Part of the plea deal should be that he has to disclose any other victims. Will the prosecution require this? No telling. BK of the Idaho 4 murders was allowed to stay silent so no motive info or crime details.

Prison meals are sufficient to maintain an adult male’s weight if they are working out substantially. Heuerman probably isn’t working out substantially, so if he eats everything, he can gain weight. He may also trade with others for some of their food.

New York abolished the death penalty in 2004 when the state’s highest court ruled that the death penalty statute was unconstitutional. However, federal crimes can still be subject to the federal death penalty in New York.

One of the other prisoners, the only one Heuermann got in touch with through letters, The Happy Face killer told him to plead guilty because Heuermann wrote in a letter to him that he did not get butter with his bread in jail. The Happy Face Killer told him to plead guilty because the food is better in prison and why give the prosecution team a chance to gloat.

I don't think it makes any difference, other than to make the MSM look stupid.
