If Theocratic Iran Had Nuclear Weapons, Would the Fear of Mutually Assured Destruction Dissuade Them From Using Them?

Posted on 04/05/2026 2:00:24 PM PDT by neverevergiveup

Mutually assured destruction as a deterrent against use of nuclear weapons has undoubtedly been a crucial reason why they haven't been used. Would a nuclear Iran, if it continued as the present theocracy, be dissuaded from using nuclear weapons because of the fear of reprisal? It's a critical question.

No. Bringing on an apocalypse is literally their religious responsibility.

Ask the left. Their opinion counts at least half.

Even if they didn’t, they’d have the power their possession gives to a nuclear power. It’s why little kids do what big kids tell them to do.

No, but, Iran doesn’t HAVE to fire their nukes off soon after acquisition. They will use them for blackmail. If the USA doesn’t nuke Iran first, Israel might have to choose between a pre-emptive, massive nuclear strike, and vacating their country.

In the longer run, Saudi Arabia and others will counter with obtaining nukes of their own. Who on earth is dumb enough to think that in the Middle East, that does not eventually “blow up”? Or that it could be contained?

“A massive pre-emptive strike on Iran by Israel”, that is.

Iran's Islamic Republic is dedicated to producing world wide war and chaos to ring in the return of the Madi

Nuclear weapons are central to Iran's plans to produce the war and chaos to hasten the return of the Madi and start the Islamic version of he Apocalypse

" Would a nuclear Iran, if it continued as the present theocracy, be dissuaded from using nuclear weapons because of the fear of reprisal? It's a critical question."

It's a stupid question...

Does the term: "Allahu Akbar" mean: "We don't want to die!"?
The Iranian leadership would happily move underground for a while to purge unbelievers from the face of the Earth...

No, and each and every leader would not have to be part of the suicide launch, Muslim leadership could be selected for that while the non volunteers left to continue the overall global jihad operations away from the launching nation.

I think they could find high level people who would form a sacrificial parallel mirror portion of the government needed to launch a suicidal nuclear war against America, it would be a suicide bombing worthy of some of the generals and cabinet level people and even an 80 year old ayatollah.

We’re not talking about rational people so the answer is, no. The scenario that I envision is that Iran uses one of their proxies to smuggle a nuclear device into Israel, probably on a vessel of some sort. They detonate it. Kills half a million and contaminates hundreds of square miles. Dead Palestinians and other Muslims are just collateral damage. Of course, the Iranians will claim they didn’t do it as no missiles were launched. With Israel unable to retaliate with their nuclear weapons who then will “mutually” destroy Iran? Answer is, no one. Certainly not anyone in Europe. At that point they threaten the neighbors in the Gulf into submission and extort obscene amounts of money from the rest of the world to allow safe passage through the Straits of Hormuz. Game, set, match.

They don’t care about getting blown up now so I doubt they’d care if they also had a nuke.

Exactly. On various threads I have heard people griping about the cost of the operation, a billion dollars a day, and my thought was:

That cost is nothing compared to the cost of a containership nuclear device going off in the Port of Los Angeles.

Even the North Koreans seem sane in comparison to the Iranian Mullahs. Notice how people aren’t generally getting all worked up about the KorComs having nuclear weapons...they haven’t been out there every day for the past 47 years shouting “Death to America” or “Death to Israel”.

Iran should never, ever have nuclear weapons, and I support any action to prevent them from getting them.

Full Stop. As you said, Next Question.

My understanding is that the Christians believe the world will be uninhabitable when Christ comes. The Shias believe they must make the world uninhabitable to bring the 13th Imam.

Iran has to have several Nukes to even talk about whistling into MAD.

The reason they would need more than one is that a single point of failure for a single Nuke is incredibly risky strategy. They can be detected. Launching platforms can also be detected.

Also, while a single Nuke is terrible. The moment they use one Iran becomes the top world enemy with a giant sign that says, “invade me.”

So Iran would have to make several nukes. That’s not as easy as it sounds.
