“Brothers and sisters, this is our God: Jesus, King of Peace, who rejects war, whom no one can use to justify war,” the first American pope, citing a Bible passage, told congregants in St. Peter’s Square, according to The Associated Press.
“He does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them,” he added.

When it comes to PTSD I suggest to people that they look at Jesus and soldiers, for example the Centurion asking Jesus to heal his servant, I point out that Jesus recognized soldiers and didn’t say anything negative about soldiering to them.
The Centurion: Faith that Made Jesus Marvel
“Jesus, the “founder and perfecter of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2), once marveled at the faith he found in a man. And it’s the only instance that the gospels record such a response from Jesus (Matthew 8:5-13; Luke 7:1-10). Who was this man? A rabbi? No. A disciple? Nope. A Roman soldier.”
To Jesus “I too am a man under authority with soldiers under me.”
“The centurion was one the most unlikely persons to amaze Jesus. He was a Gentile. Doubtless he had a pagan upbringing. He was a Roman, stationed in Palestine to subject the Jews to the Emperor’s rule. He was a man of war. He achieved the rank of centurion by distinguishing himself above others in the brutal Roman martial arts. Not exactly the résumé you’d expect for becoming one of the Bible’s great heroes of faith.”
Then Jesus said, loud enough for everyone to hear, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith” (Luke 7:9).
Hegseth’s prayer was trying to equate what may in fact be pragmatically correct, strategic objective — with a Biblical mandate.
It’s not.
ironic coming from the Holy See
God “does not listen to the prayers” of individuals who start wars...
Can you let it go during “Holy Week” ? What’s with this guy ?
As did George Washington.
no joke I’m a Protestant and I will say that some of the best warrior histories have been popes. There have been some really savage bastards. thank God because we would be living in a caliphate.
The current Poop speaks...
Pope Leo under truth serum : “God doesn’t hear the prayers of a Jew”.
That’s what he really meant.
The Crusades?????
The crusades were amazing. my family crest is covered in Crusader imagery.
I understand...
But Hegseth made it sound like he is fulfilling a Biblical, prophetic mandate and lumping US Armed Forces with it. Not just simply praying for the well being of his troops.
The pope condemned my catholic mom (and me) to hell for marrying my protestant dad. So there is that
Very hard to defend Pope Leo and Pope Francis. When Russia invaded Ukraine and these two ostensibly Christian nations were at war causing death, inconsolable suffering and devastation, neither one stood above the fray and tried to use their office and influence to achieve peace. If Pope JohnPaul II were alive it would have been different. Sorry but both of these Popes have done much to alienate the faithful and hurt the Church.
This Pope may be an even bigger wolf that his predecessor, even if his sheep skin suit is a bit better tailored.
So removing Hitler was a sin? The pope is a dope.
I'm talking directly to you, Pope Leo. You should read the Bible more, and it's more than a little sad that either you can't figure out who the good guys are here, or the even worse possibility that maybe you think your fellow Americans are the bad guys.
So God must not have heard any prayers from Iran. They have been at open war with us for 47 years.
Will he apply this to Islam, which spreads by gun and sword? Or is this just another dig at Trump?
He either hasn’t read it, or thinks he knows better than - or is higher in authority than - God Himself.
Either case is a major problem.
Agreed!
