President Donald Trump said his preference is to “take the oil” from Iran — despite whatever gripes his critics would have about it — during an interview with the Financial Times on Sunday.
“To be honest with you, my favorite thing is to take the oil in Iran but some stupid people back in the U.S. say: ‘why are you doing that?’ But they’re stupid people,” Trump told the outlet.
The outlet noted “such a move would involve seizing Kharg Island through which most of Iran’s oil is exported.” Trump has been calling for the U.S. to take the island for years, including in 1988 when he said he would “do a number” on it.

The price of oil has surged higher over the last month as maritime traffic has plummeted through the Strait of Hormuz. A barrel of oil is going for $101 on Sunday night — up 51% from the $67.02 oil barrels cost the day before Operation Epic Fury started on February 28.

Iran would hit Kharg with everything they had. They don’t care about the oil, they want blood.
Have they located the Big Mo yet?
Excellent.
It would be tough to try to guilt China on Taiwan if the US took full control of Kharg and Iran’s oil for its own benefit.
It’s not that the Chinese wouldn’t do it in our position, it’s that we can’t take on the whole world without some help, and Europe is in a deluded, self-righteous state about power politics.
It’s better if it were not played at all, but if someone runs the game, you have to defend.
Europe is toast…unless they decide to join us. It’s their only chance at a path moving forward.
That’s kind of what I think. The US would have to octuple-protect Kharg from missile attack. The US would also have to oversee the shepherding of tankers loading oil for the oil to do any good. And the US would have to overr see collecting the $$ from oil sales. I’m not at this point picturing how this would be done. Semi-hostile nations could claim this oil was stolen goods. (You know, it’s OK for them to take it, but they don’t need to pay for it)
The future of Iran ia all going to boil down wto who controls the oil. Nothing else in the country is worth spit. I remain intensely skeptical that the IRGC is not going to give the resource without full-on resistance.
He’s goading the iranians to hit their own infrastructure. This screws China and makes US oil worth more money. The costs of global products only makes American products cheaper. High oil is not necessarily a bad thing when we are self sufficient. Trump is ALWAYS three steps ahead. The troops are a head fake. Iran is going to destroy themselves, and we’re going to sit back and watch it. Then we’ll see what happens.
“Kharg Island through which most of Iran’s oil is exported”
I believe it’s just a shipment point and that the oil comes from elsewhere.
No income with which to re-build their war machine?
Probably have to just use their fists now.
Shell game people. Keeps Iran uncertain as to what will happen next.
I think that may be the case. But i wouldn’t be opposed to the US taking the oil until the entire operation against Iran is repaid.

They’re Shia. They want to go to paradise opposing their enemy. We’ll make a deal where we both win. Strictly business.
No, I am not joking. I spent years around Shia and their militias. You either own the situation or they will try you. Right now we own it and should not relent.

Wait until we start distributing “oil revenue” checks to the Iranian masses via Starlink.
Take Kharg FOREVER.
Overwhelming counterbattery! They shoot. They die.
Invading Kharg Island to seize Iran’s oil is like invading your local grocery store to feed your town. After the first 15 minutes you’re not going going to get any deliveries to replenish the inventory.
Anyone see where Kharg Island is? It looks like a complete fish bowl.
Get the freaking IDF to land soldiers. They can borrow a ship.
