The factory that produces half of Britain’s salt could soon be killed by Net Zero. For the first time in history, England is set to be a net importer of the world’s most important mineral. This will be catastrophic for UK manufacturing, says Ruari McCallion

A post on this subject:-

@BenGrahamUK

The UK produces around 5–6 million tonnes of salt per year, supporting industries worth tens of billions, from chemicals and water treatment to food processing and pharmaceuticals.

The UK chemicals sector alone contributes £30 billion+ to the economy, and salt is a foundational feedstock for it.

It’s also used in 90% of medicines, underpins winter road safety, and supports thousands of skilled jobs across the North West and Yorkshire.

If domestic production collapses, we don’t just import salt.

We export jobs, supply chain security, and industrial capability.

Ed Miliband isn’t protecting the economy, he’s dismantling it, piece by piece

The invasion of illegals will kill the UK before lack of NaCl will if the current trend is any indication.

“Produces” salt? Do they take 1 part sodium and 1 part chloride and stir them in a big pot?

The stupids do not realize that the EU can be ignored. And their acolytes can be removed.

“Absolute lunacy but what do you expect from ‘red’ Ed Miliband who calls himself “Energy secretary””

Not lunacy, but simple logic for the Left: Salt makes food taste good, especially meat, so ban it (or at least try).

There is little understanding of the difference between process and produce. Have you ever read Mark Twain’s critique of James Fenimore Cooper’s writings? The essay is well worth it!

Yes, but the volume of salt is used for other purposes.
For example, my company sells hundreds of trucks each fall and winter in the north east of rock salt and calcium chloride for ice melter products.
Every municipal water treatment facility buys solar salt to treat their tap water.

The only real large producer of salt is Saudi Arabia.
They practically give it away as a byproduct of their deslalinazation plants.

The scam that is global warming has been as effective as a nuclear war against the west in how it is destroying the industrial capacity of the west.

It’s an absolutely brilliant strategy. All the same damage without firing a shot.

This is what happens when you let intellectuals run things instead of sending them to work in rice paddies in the summer. Pol Pot had a much better climate for dealing with intellectuals.
